They had a good choice of Pies, pastries and cake, There are tables and chair inside the bakery or out side in a court yard. You can have a coffee or a cup of tea as well, but they are in take away cups and the food comes on disposable plates and cutlery. It opens early so we had breakfast before the shops and winery opened

High quality coffee shop. Lovely courtyard setting with fabulous service. Carrot cake and coffee were excellent, accompanied by a live harp player. Easy walk from the old Gaol. We didn’t have a sandwich, but they looked delicious.

Many bakeries in Tasmania lay claim to having the best Scallop Pie, I only tried the Richmond Bakery’s version and it was delicious. They had a wonderful section of cakes, biscuits etc Leo. I was doubtful as to the quality of the coffee as bakeries often put more thought in to baked goods rather than coffee BUT Richmond Bakery proved me wrong.

This place was such a let down. We ordered numerous different pies and sausage rolls and 2 sweet pastries. We sat out the back to enjoy our lunch, however we far from enjoyed it. The pies/sausage rolls were all cold, not even like warm. I was going to put up with it as I was so hungry but the mince used in the shepherds pie wasn’t even nice and fell apart when I tried to pick it up to eat. The meat used in the sausage rolls was very mushy. We ended up telling staff that their food was cold and showing them. They were kind enough to reimburse what we paid. We kept our sweet pastries (chocolate eclair and mud cake slice ) which were both very nice. Sadly we won’t be returning.

This used to be a delightful little bakery and restaurant with the best stollen in the State when run by Jan the Dutchman, but, alas, no more. Its been "repositioned" and now makes Coles and Banjos look way upmarket. First you walk in, decore is tired and whilst not actually grimy, needs a good spring clean. Staff are too busy talking to each other to greet customers, and its "takeaway service only, but you can sit anywhere inside or outside." Most pastries, pies, etc showed signs of being in the heater too long, the sweets were discount supermarket style - overprocessed with imitation cream - and the coffee was quite dumb. As to my requested stollen, the gentleman behind the counter did not even know what it was. Very, very, disappointing.

Busy bakery right in the heart of Richmond township. There are plenty of places to sit down and eat both inside and out. There is a lot of choices for food especially the pies. The pies themselves are of the best country quality and prices are most reasonable. Well worth the stop for lunch. Make note of the historical signs inside about some of the many old landmarks of the town - most informative.

After the great reviews of the scallop pie we went out of our way to visit this bakery. We were very disappointed. I cut my pie in half and there was one scallop in one half of the pie and two small halves of scallop in the other. The remainder of the filling can only be described as glug which I could not eat. If that is a ‘good’ scallop pie I am destined to leave Tasmania disappointed! The coffee was quite good and my husband’s shepherds pie was better than average.

Pros - lovely outdoor ambiance to the tunes of the harp. Plenty of seats in and out. Paper cups are enviro friendly. Cons - full prices for food and beverages served in paper. We ordered raspberry custard tart - looks great but tastes like a cordial after taste. Florentine was ok. Coffee was less than average : plenty of air bubbles in the froth.

We got here at 9.00am...not too early, but definitely not late. There were no bread rolls available!!! A bakery that has run out of bread rolls that early!!! Very disappointing. On a brighter note, the steak and mushroom pie was delicious and their vanilla slices are divine.

Shepherds pie, peppersteak pie, chicken and camembert pie and cauliflower and cheese pie. That was day 1. Had to come back on a second day to try some of the others. Great food, great coffee and hot chocolate. Mikey the Barista was super friendly and made us Darwinians feel so welcome. If you are visiting Hobart, spend the time to venture 30 min to Richmond and try The Richmond Bakery.

Nearly ruined our visit to Richmond. Scallop pie contained 6 small scallops in a large watery mush. Knife from rack was sticky, One coffee cup had a really grotty, dirty base with old coffee stains, the other sat in a saucer speckled with ground coffee dust. And the tables were splashed with the previous patron’s spills. We spoke to a waiter who said that they were very busy but he would have cleaned the table if we’d asked. Of course they were all very occupied inside when we looked for a table outside. Overall the impression was grotty with maybe too few staff to keep the place clean.

Cold and wet winters day called for a warm pie and it didn’t disappoint. We also tried the ‘Award Winning’ Vanilla Slice and it was so good. Differently give this place a try if your looking for something simple. They also had a big range of salad sandwiches and lots of seating (inside and out)

Just took some visitors from NZ to have a look at Richmond, and of course took them to the place I have always eaten lunch at when in town, for literally decades - the Bakery. This place is very unpretentious, most of the seating is outside at simple tables, but actually it is that fact that gives the place its ambience, the freshest of clean air and plenty of space makes it a really nice place to eat, whether you are alone or in a party of 12. It is all fast-food, as you would expect from a Bakery. But the food is very good. Their scallop pies are as good as most you'll find (though the best I've eaten come from the Sandy Bay Banjo's), and their other pies are excellent. Prices are average, neither the cheapest nor the most expensive you will find in the Hobart region. They have a huge range of cakes and slices to satisfy the most demanding sweet tooth, and the coffee is good. And after lunch, you are in the Coal River Valley, so why not stop in at one of the dozens of wineries and taste some of the State's finest vintages?

Well located in the centre of Richmond, we went here for a coffee. As someone requiring a gluten free options, I went without expectations and was not disappointed: not much here for the gluten free. When we visited coffee was being served kin paper cups to comply with COVID protocols - Ok coffee. It is a lovely venue - I am sure pie eaters are very happy here.
