We brought our nieces and nephews here. We are from Canada but they live in Missouri. I really wanted to find a good Japanese experience for their first and we were pleased! Definitely, try the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Both were absolutely delicious!

A stylish establishment in Alley A between 9th and 10th streets has the best nigiri, sashimi, and rolls in town. But fear not the excellent quality fish is not to be outdone by exquisite other menu favorites such as the fried brussell sprouts in lemon...More

Sushi in the middle of Missouri...I should have known better. My visit started off well as I loved the location and overall ambiance of Kampai. Unfortunately that is all I liked about the place. While the service was more of less adequate the waitress did...More

I did not know this place existed, and had a friend take me here. I was not disappointed. I will be eating here often.

Having eaten at Kampai several times in the past, my family and I were expecting the same quality that we had had. The menus are old and falling apart, as was the couch upstairs, The feel was dirty, not swept properly, and dark, hiding something...More

Thursday night dinner (02/16/17). Poor service with an attitude and poorly presented food. Had to ask for drinks continually. If the place were packed, I could be a little more understanding. The food looked like it was just piled on the plate in one big...More

The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is quite nice. It was definitely not empty but they were playing some soft music and it was quiet enough to easily have a conversation in a group. Good for meetups/dates. Highly...More

Always a favorite for fresh sushi, great atmosphere and outstanding service! The owners are very involved and engaged with their customers and want to ensure the best service is received. The only place I'll go for sushi!

Always fabulous! Great food! Great service! The Brussels are the best kept secret! I keep a list of my favorite specials on my phone and always order a chef roll that I like even better and add to my list. Great ambiance!

We went there tonight and had a good sample of their sushi rolls: Tuna, Samurai Warrior, Tiger, Dragon, Sunset, Dynamite, Crazy, Caterpillar, Volcano, Jurassic, CoMo, Kampai. Plus white tuna, salmon and scallop sashimi, along with edamame and seawood salad. And, mochi ice cream. Of course, a few beers, too. So...great service and good atmosphere, although access can be challenging especially if it is raining due to the "river alley" that is created. To the food critique...our favorite rolls were the Samurai, Tiger and Sunset. The rest were just okay, nothing we would order again. Most rolls seemed a little bland and uninspired. If we had to choose the worst, it would be the tuna, simply not good. The sashimi was consistent with other places, so it was average. Mochi for dessert was interesting, good and flavorful. Overall, it isn't anything special or above the other sushi places in town. While the owners may have come from St. Louis to try to make place in the Columbia market, they still have a ways to go.
