sad cheese plater

Overall the 4 meals were very good but I personly had the cheese plater if you could call it that. It consisted of a whole load of crackers a few thin slices of apple some Quince paste and 1 portion of soft brie. To call it plater was miss leading it should have come with at least 3 pieces of cheese. it cost $15 plus, you could have more cheese but it cost an extra $6.00.

A little gem tucked away at Mooney Mooney.

We had family coming down from Newcastle who mentioned this was a good place for a catch up over lunch. Popped in after the New year and found plenty of FREE parking space at the club. What a relief that was after coming from Sydney. The place is settled in a quiet street away from the noisy M1 highway. You don't hear a thing except the quietness of this lay back village overlooking a part of the Hawkesbury River and oyster farms. The club was clean, tidy and kind of cute. The restaurant has a modern and energetic feel and the food was prepared fresh from the kitchen. We are quite fussy when it comes to food, but the professional chef and staff didn't disappoint. We settled for the grilled fish and salad with a side plate of chips. Even our visiting family from Newcastle were impressed. We have been back twice now and have no hesitation in going back! Just a better play area for the kids would be nice.

Lovely seafood

A friend and I had lunch and shared the seafood platter and house bubbles. We had their late lunch setting of 2pm and unfortunately had to wait an hour for the food to arrive. All of the seafood was delicious and despite our hunger we were unable to finish it all. A generous serve but not inexpensive. Good distance between fellow diners (ala Covid) and our table for two meant we could converse easily. We live fairly locally so will return as we want to support all of our local businesses.

food going from bad to worse...

We used to come here 2-3 times a week but sadly we had to stop due to the gradual decline of the quality of food and service over the past few years. We had some friends over this weekend so we decided to give this venue another chance. Unfortunately we were even more disappointed this time. We couldn't gain the attention of the wait staff even though the restaurant was only 1/4 full. After waiting for over an hour for our food with failed attempts to attract the attention of the wait staff, the steak that was supposed to be medium rare was as tough as rubber and the chips were obviously the last of the batch with burnt crumbs. The lettuce in the caesar salad was shredded so finely and drenched in dressing that caesar would need a name change. The salmon was overcooked but our guest didn't mind and the pasta could have done with some seasoning but again we couldn't gain the attention of staff. This place used to be buzzing with diners but I'm guessing most have stopped coming due to disappointments after disappointments.

We have been going to the Mooney Mooney Club for at least 10 years or so mainly to meet friends from Sydney as we live at Lake Macquarie. This is a club mind you nothing special but after a visit to the south coast of NSW it made us think about the prices this club was charging $44.00 a dozen for oysters natural and $46.00 for Oysters Kilpatrick at Greenwell Point on the south coast we paid $20.00 and $23.00 respectively a dozen. Their Seafood platter was $185.00 compared to Noah's on the Beach at Newcastle's $99.00. The quality was not there and it's certainly our last visit. I'm 74 and the oysters we had down south were the best I'd tasted in my life.

WHAT A SHOCKER ...

Visited for the first time, the staff were polite but then came the food. The seafood was miniture - oysters smaller than a pea. The Chef should be ashamed to send it out, as I would like to think that the wait staff would be embarrased to bring it out.. If you cannot provide King Prawns or a decent size oysters - common sense says TAKE IT OFF THE MENU. Total embarrasment.

The worst food in town!!

Well, it starts with standing waiting to be seated fir 5 minutes whilst the female bar staff looked at us, walks away to return that 5 minutes later and come over and seat us. The club was quiet and she certainly was not overworked and I went to the effort of making a booking. Wow, this club has claimed the title for the worst garlic bread and luke warm chips and calamari. I’m embarrassed to say i actually have a membership here. There must be new cooks as they don’t deserve to be called chefs. I’m not sure why noodles are served with chips and calamari. The garlic bread was like a mini loaf of bread that was absolutely tasteless. Mooney Mooney, what the hell has happened here. The food is normally pretty good and the thing that pisses me off is I paid $68 to be served this rubbish. NEVER AGAIN I should put in a claim fir a refund on my membership!!

7A 2C for 11.30 lunch, ordered midday. Waited over an hour for food, which was expensive, sparce, tasteless & hot food was cold. No wait staff, till 1.30 when staff told us we had to vacate table for next booking. We wanted to order dessert/coffee, told we could have but not at that table. I exploded, relief manager couldnt make a decision to save herself. Never ever again Mooney and this has been an annual birthday lunch event.

We were a table of 7 celebrating a birthday. Sat on the balcony but as it was cold asked to be moved inside but we’re told they couldn’t fit us despite numerous spare tables which could seat 4 people so 2 tables could be pushed together to accommodate us but we were refused. We asked 1 of the waitresses if the plastic blinds could be lowered but she abruptly replied she had too many things to do and ask someone else! Eventually a lovely waitress lowered 1 of the blinds. We had been there approx 1 hr when we had to find a waitress and ask if we could place an order. We then had to chase up our meals over an hour later. The meals which were very nice I will add! Dirty plates still on the table half an hour later and we had to ask for them to be taken away. We again had to chase down a waitress to order desserts which came in a timely fashion. When we had finished our meal the place was quite empty yet our bill still took too long to arrive. Overall we were there for nearly 3.5 hrs. One of the 1st tables to arrive and pretty much the last to leave all due to the extremely slow service. Will not go again which is a shame when the view is beautiful and the food delicious.

Generally a good meal even when busy..lunch today was a prawn salad. 6 tiny little tasteless prawns with 2 small cherry tomatoes cut in half of what could have been a bag of Coles mixed leaves with no dressing..bonus was a 1/4 of Avocado fanned out. The others seemed happy with meal. Meal price $15.

Mid week lunch at the Mooney Money Club

Some family members met at the Club for an 80th birthday celebration. The staff were very welcoming and made a special effort to make it a memorable event and meal. The food was great and served to us fairly quickly. Thank you to the Club

What a Gem.

Went here on a friday with family. Staff were fantastic. Really professional made us feel so important and we’re run off their feet but always smiling I enjoyed the Kangaroo which I tried for the first time and loved it. The Barramundi was also popular my son and his wife had the seafood platter for two which was amazing. The desserts were to die for I had the lemon curd tart. Loved everything about this fantastic little club..Can’t wait to go again!!

Food not fit for a dog

Our fisherman’s baskets consisting of deep fried seafood, and chips that were all very obviously cooked in old oil. Obvious not only by the dark colour but by the ‘off’ stale taste. Adding further insult was that these chips were coated in chicken salt, which contains MSG. I am highly allergic to MSG. This additive was not mentioned in the menu or at the time of placing our order. The accompanying salad with just a whiff of dressing was also limp. Another of our party of 4 ordered a sirlion steak cooked rare to medium rare without any sauce. It was delivered over-cooked, covered with sauce but more importantly, it had a rotten taste and had to be returned after only two bites. Oh did I mention the exorbitant prices? Did I mention that our plates with mostly uneaten food sat in front of us for well over an hour with the constant presence of passing wait staff largely ignoring our table. Such a shame as the venue and outlook are very nice. It’ll be a long time before we return. Do yourself a favour and bypass this venue.

Four ladies visited the Club today for lunch, easy parking outside, friendly staff welcoming us to our booked table. We enjoyed a glass of wine each, followed by Caesar Salad x 2, Seafood salad, and a Seafood entree, all delicious, and bowls of chips to accompany them. Fabulous views overlooking the Hawkesbury River, beautiful grounds and amenities, all at a very reasonable price. Will come again.

Used to be good, now it's expensively mediocre

This place used to be our go-to when catching up with friends from the Coast and Sydney as it was halfway for everyone, food was good and so was the service. However since covid this place has done a slow slide into mediocrity. Expensive mediocrity. Last time I visited (around December) I chose the special which was soup and sourdough. Except they had run out of sourdough, so I got soup with a teeny bit of sourdough crust, more like a crouton really. When I asked for more bread, they told me they were sold out. No offer of a discount or alternative, or even a chip to use as bread for my soup. Today when I finally flagged someone down to order after being seated for 40mins, we were told, "all chicken" is sold out. Also, there are no specials, At all. Finally I opted for some sort of vegan salad that was $30, mostly made up of rocket. My partner had the caesar salad which was actually cheaper than mine, and at least had more than 3 ingredients. Looking around me, many people were leaving a large majority of their meals untouched. No one seemed impressed or pleased by the meagre offerings available on the menu. I don't think the menu has changed in 2 years, except we used to be able to get some sort of special. Now unless you want a seafood platter you are out of luck. I have been a member here for almost 15 years and I won't be renewing it. My recommendation is to eat at Wahroonga, or travel on to the coast. This place is not worth the price tag for crappy food and crappy service.
