What an experience! Suggested by a colleague and is now my favourite breakfast place. Day 1 had an omelette and a bottomless cup of coffee. Day 2 had the blueberry pancakes (after seeing them on Day 1). Would have gone a 3rd day but had to fly home.....

If you like your meal with a row of folks waiting right behind you then this is the place. Limited seating combined with good food makes for a wait & the need to eat quickly.

The breakfast was excellent! Food is made to order therefore it is very fresh. Very fun vibe inside as well as outside in Dinkytown. Favorite place of students and U of MN athletes. You will not be disappointed if you eat here.

Stopped in on a very cold morning, food was great! Fun place with lots of nostalgia and a huge portion.

This place is a local institution and very, very charming...if you accept that you'll probably have to wait an hour or more. It's a tiny place (it seats 14 people) but oh so vibrant! They only serve breakfast. Their choices are awesome, they offer anything you can think of for breakfast. Portion sizes are exactly what you'd want if you... More

it just doesn't get much better than Al's. It takes cozy to a new extreme, 14 stools and a long counter but that's part of the charm. I've been going here since 2001 and it is always the same, just like you were there yesterday. Wait in line (it can be a blizzard and the line will still be there),... More

A friend and I went to Al's on a Saturday morning at about 7:30. We were first in the waiting line but only waited 2 minutes before 2 stools opened up. I had the pumpkin pancakes. Wow, were those big and good. 2 was enough for me. Highly recommend these. The coffee was better than standard restaurant coffee. Food arrived... More

Al's is a regular breakfast spot when visiting the U. Big portions, bottomless coffee, great diner menu choices. Al's has never disappointed!

Al's is more of an experience for those who went to school in Minneapolis. My friend had fond memories of being there. I found it to be far too cramped and not worth the wait. I'd recommend it, though, for those looking for a true "locals" experience.

Don't be put off by the queue, Al's Breakfast is worth the wait. Staff members are endlessly entertaining in this tiny, energetic and eclectic breakfast joint. The menu is a step up from the usual diner fare and portions are flexible in size (a big plus for me as I'm often put off by the huge quantity of food on... More
