After spending a few days in the U.P. and having a bad pastie experience earlier that week, we decided to try Bessie's to see how their pasties would be. We were pleasantly surprised on the Sunday afternoon we stopped. It's a small restaurant but big on friendliness and great service. Our pasties were delicious, as was the coleslaw. We also... More

I was really looking forward to experiencing my first pastie. My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the chicken. There were only three pieces of chicken in the entire pastie. It was mostly filled with potatoes and tasteless gravy. The pastry crust was OK, except in the menu, they bragged about using real shortening. Is that the stuff that... More

The pasties were quite tasty, but our favorite thing about this place was the staff. There were two people there, only caught one's name(Cat) ; they totally made our visit go from normal to just an extremely nice human interaction. We walked away from the visit just happy to be. Good stuff.

My husband and I arrived on a Sunday night. We couldn't find anything in town we were looking for while we were driving around town, then behold! We found Bessie's sign and seen she was open, we went in and ordered the pasty plate with Cole slaw and gravy. It was just what we were looking for. This is why... More

They were out of just about everything. With that being said it was the end of the season. Pasties were good. We had the yooper and the vegi. They were okay. Nothing to write home about for sure. Service was fantastic.

Are reading the reviews, this place was a huge dissapointment. My French grandmother used to make the most awesome pasties and I was hoping for something close. Well these weren't even. The service was so bad that one couple got up and left while we were there and another couple who arrived some time after we did were served and... More

The first place we went after checking in to our motel. The pasties were great... mine with ketchup, hubbies with gravy. They came out super fast, and hot. I was pleasantly surprised to see vernors on the menu. Thanks so much!

When visiting the Upper Peninsula of Michigan it is a sin not to enjoy one of their famous "Pasties". We have tried pasties at several different restaurants and few have disappointed. Bessie's is small and old with limited seating. However, the ladies that were working when we visited were wonderfully nice and attentive. Our pasties with gravy and cole slaw... More

My best friend & I decided to take a weekend away, her only request was somewhere with a lot of water. Well, there's no better place with a lot of water than the UP of Michigan which offers 3 of the great lakes. Of course, while you're in the UP you have to get two things, fudge & pasties. I... More

Flavorful ,home made, fresh daily. Family owned for three generations, they care about their product. Cafe is small, but very friendly. These are the best in this area.
