Bombay Talkies is a walk down memory's lane. Complete with pictures of Laxman's cartoons alongside Mario Miranda's, the boutique restaurant in Harris Park is a pit stop for nostalgia freaks like me -- It brings back memories of Bombay, a city that gave me much,...at least to think about. My lunch was a shared one with my son Warren. He is the foodie in our family, always up for new tastes. He has never been to Bombay and much of his knowledge of this vibrant city and its cuisines is at best, armchair, stuff. So, we began with the sali boti -- an old Parsi favourite made with a recipe that history has forgotten. So, when the dish arrived, parting the sali (fried potato strips) to let the flavours burst forth was a defining moment. The sweetness of the apricot, the delicate softness of the spice blend, the tender meat basting in the "long, elichi and dalchini" -- each showing off its own magic at the first taste itself! A perfect 10, Marination is everything in this dish and you know it when you bite into the tender meat. This is why most restaurants don't attempt this dish. Patrons won't wait and this dish takes its time or it isn't what it should be. The chicken biriani came next with the aromas of its basmati rice filling our little table. Each grain cooked to perfection, the chicken felt tender, juicy, well marinated and the spices seem roasted before being cooked which is a step oft forgotten or sacrificed to haste. Its hard to tell if the masala was from a packet but then it probably wasn't but nowadays you never know. In any case, the roasting, blending and the chilled raita it was served made visions of Bombay come alive. The soups we tried were the chicken sweet corn and the hot and sour soup both of which reminded me of the Khar Gymkhana and the housie sessions at which i used to enjoy those soups. Those were challenging days and i used to sit there with a match-stick poking holes in my one ticket, hoping to win the full house -- i never did. But, the soups were delicious, soft consolation that one day the revolution would come and i would be catapulted out of my pit of poverty. It did. So, as i sat there at Bombay Talkies, enjoying these soups with my son who could never understand what days i had to face, it looked into his eyes and said a silent 'thank you' to God for keeping me to see a day when i could enjoy these old favourites with my precious little one. The garlic nan/bread was soft, hot and fluffy -- a great companion to the Sali Boti. We ended with sharing a Casata ice-cream - and happy to note that it was as revolting as it always was. The restaurant does not make it -- that would be a blemish on its reputation. It is kept there though for people like me who enjoy these treats if only to re-live the old days! I did not order the masala tea. Hopefully, the Irani chai will be served. It will go well with the restaurant's enchanting, authentic decor. Enjoy.More

The quality of the food and the taste was excellent. The owners are super friendly and the restaurant is clean. We tried two of the dishes ,chicken heydarabadi and tikka both were really delicious. The best restaurant that we have been in Harris Park.

Indo -Chinese is a unique cuisine , its an off shoot to Indian food . A legacy of food style left by the Chinese in India . This resturant has carried the tradition of this style of cooking to match its authenticity . Try -...Chinese Bhel , Manchurian, Friend Rice and Noodles . These dishes are best eaten /served hot so reccomend a dine in only. Great service .More

Ordered take away. Dishes not meant to be spicy were spicy and same sauce used in most dishes. Chicken pieces in Chicken chilly and Manchurian were dry and recipe not followed properly. Could have been microwaved. If you want better INDO CHINESE food go to...Dragon house in George St Parramatta. Only redeeming dish was Chicken American Chopsey. Pepper in one dish tasted weird. Cant even explain.More

If you need to taste street Indian Chinese food in Sydney, then look no further that this place. Great taste, lots of variety menu, licensed, great ambience. Always busy, but has lot of seating.

We had a fabulous experience - for a group of 8 with three kids - Ordered a huge spread of food - Indian-Chinese (delicious), Indian, veg, non-veg, drinks - the lot. Food was tasty, arrived quickly (for New Year's day) and thoroughly enjoyable. They are...licensed (nice bonus). The service was slow to begin, but after we pointed that out, it improved. The owner's son was behind the bar serving drinks & a very friendly chap. We all loved the decor and ambience too. Both toilets were neat. Will be going back soon. Recommend it! We like the indian chinese food here , its what we always order, and its the closest to what you get back in India. While the food will always get 5 stars from me, there are a few things to be aware of. The weekend...( incl. sunday) is chaotic here . I ordered take away here last night and had to wait an additional 45 mins beyond the estimated pick up time. However, Percy , who dealt with my order( Percy if you’re reading this, I’m the lady who asked for egg with the chicken chop suey 😁) was wonderful at dealing with the situation, and comped my meal, which was a very unexpected and highly apprecated gesture. So I’ll say, they definitely ended up retaining a loyal customer. If you want to experience this place for the first time, I would recommend going there on a weeknight, rather than the weekend.More

First time there, will be back. Mangalorian chicken curry the best. Service was friendly and efficient, comfy setting, relaxed vibe great location.

Food was good but have to wait for 30-40 minutes after ordering the food. Try some good Indo-Chinese dishes, they are good.

Amazing Indian food in the town, try out the kofta and daal worth having... The best daal we had til date.... Service too is amazing..... Would come back soon....
