Okay, pancakes for dinner might sound odd, but these are not ordinary pancakes. My whole experience was outstanding. The hostess, waitress, and owner were attentive, and efficient. The portions were huge, but so good, I didn’t leave a crumb. It’s worth the trip if you want good food, and great service. Also, there are many other dinner options available besides pancakes. There was also a low cost buffet, They also accommodate pets outside on a patio with umbrellas. If you’re tired of the same old fare on the Mackinaw, St Ignace strips, give this place a chance to WOW you.

Great breakfast place. We don’t usually return to the same place more than once on vacation so that we can try new things. However, Pancake Chef was good quality food, friendly service, & decent prices. There were three of us but I’m not a big eater. So we ordered two Chef Breakfasts and there was plenty of food for all three people.
Staff was kind and they use Toast as their computer system, making check out at the table very easy.
They also had a buffet which was about the same price as the Chefs breakfast if you’re into buffets.
Highly recommend Pancake Chef!

Let me start by saying the service was excellent. Our waiter was a young man named K and he was very friendly and helpful. Any other staff we encountered was great too. However, the food was not all fantastic and incredibly overpriced. The pancakes and hash browns were really, really good but the eggs were not. They were very clearly powdered eggs and the texture was just off. Unfortunately a very small omelet, tiny portion of hash browns and two pancakes cost $23 before tax and tip. Yikes.

First off $ 20 + for an omelet, so we take the buffet $19, bad choice. Everything was cold, bacon like leather, POWERED EGGS YUCK, even frech toast was dipped in it. And on top they charged us $9 for a small carafe of coffee.

Known for Breakfast Buffet, we stopped in for supper when other local restaurants were filled with lines outside waiting. What a pleasant surprise, they had a buffet but we ordered off the small menu and the food and service was excellent. I had whitefish!!! As we were leaving a 'tour bus' filled with seniors who couldn't find a place at other restaurants unloaded. There were pleanty of seats and the buffet suited them just fine.

This place was recommended by a local for having the best breakfast in town. I was promptly seated and got the $15.95 breakfast buffet. It had the whole breakfast spectrum including eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy, pancakes, French toast fresh fruit, scones etc.
The cooked to order meals were almost as much or more then the buffet price so it was a better value. People were saying it’s pricy but I always like to put into perspective by saying “it’s still cheaper then Vegas.”
Friendly and prompt service from my J-1 Romanian waitress. Clean Buffett being re-supplied often. Street parking. Indoor/outdoor seating with tables, booths and flat tops.
They lost one star due to a 3% credit card fee that was not posted and I didn’t see till the check came. C’mon, you’re in a high tourist area. At least post the fee on the door or window.
I heard Audie’s has a good breakfast also. I would recommend and return but just bring some cash.

We come here often when we go up to the UP. However, the quality of food on the buffet has significantly changed from good to poor. The food just wasn't good like I'm used to having it from years past. The food quality is getting poor while the prices keep going up.

We were on a bus trip and our last night we had a buffet dinner at the Pancake Chef Restaurant in Mackinaw city, MI. I think they were a person or 2 short that night but it didn't affect anything at all. They served a great buffet for 50+ people. The food was awesome. Plenty of variety. The best we had on the whole week long trip. The food was all hot or cold, whichever was appropriate for that particular item. They never ran out of anything, which with that many people and a lot of them going back for seconds, was quite a task. The staff did a great job. They were very friendly and efficient. I would recommend that you stop here for a great meal if you are in the area. In fact, even if you have to drive a ways to get here, it is worth it. Great job by eveyone.

We visited here for breakfast about 9.30am on a Saturday morning. It was very busy - we had a 5 minute wait - and the buffet seemed to be very popular. We both ordered pancakes and received 5 huge pancakes with all the usual trimmings. They were very filling and very tasty. Good service too.

Wonderful service. Buffet food was fresh & plentiful - ribs, fish, great meatballs, delicious mashed potatoes, & a very nice salad bar. Matt, K, & Marg did a great job keeping up with drink orders even after a second bus showed up. Oh, and George was warm & welcoming.

Watery tasteless eggs at the breakfast bar some items lukewarm the biscuits were hard the milk was warm coffee cups are small. My wife ordered from the kitchen and her food was better. Great service very friendly staff

Really can't say enough positive about this place! We thought they closed at 9pm and called at 7:53 to see if they could take a party of 8 adults and 8 children. They agreed to go ahead and stay open for us even though they closed at 8! George greeted us at the door and our servers Dafina and Kursat made us feel very welcome even though they had been their all day. Given we were a group of 3 families with small children our requests were almost nonstop. They never stopped smiling or taking dirty plates or offering drink refills. Several in our party got the dinner buffet but they were a little jealous when they saw and tried the pancakes everyone else ordered. I see why pancake is in the title of the restaurant! We loved the potatoe pancakes, pumpkin, banana, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes we ordered so kudos to the cooks not to mention how fast our food came out! Overall we had a terrific visit and look forward to returning. Hopefully Dafina or Kursat will be working next visit, definitely planning on requesting them next time! And thank you to George for all the times he checked on us to make sure we were enjoying our visit.

Fantastic dinner buffet with top notch hospitality and table service. The food was delicious with a fresh salad bar that included homemade salads: potato, pasta and coleslaw. Two soups: Cream of Asparagus and Gupnik (spelling?) Which was a tasty goulash taste with tomatoes, cabbage and ground beef. Hot entrees were so tasty: BBQ ribs, Pot Roast, Baked chicken and Fried whitefish that was to die for! Homemade red skin on Mashed Potatoes and fresh biscuits finished us off. We were alo treated to Rice Pudding for dessert. I definitely will go back on the next visit!

Opted for breakfast buffet and coffee. Friendly server and busser. No visit from mgr but was hoping for one. Did not receive water until end of meal. Buffet had some good options like eggs, sausage, grits, bacon, pancakes, french toast, bread pudding as well as salad options.

Pancake Chef is a family restaurant that is open until 2:00pm daily and breakfast is served the entire time. The portions are generous and the food is pleasing to the taste and to looks. For what one gets, the prices are fair and reasonable. Don't miss this restaurant while in Mackinaw City!
