I had the Polish sampler. The highlight was the czarnina (duck blood) soup. Sauerkraut was a little too sweet for me. Kielbasa was too peppery. The cream cheese pierogies were da bomb.

Hadn't been here in a while, but had a taste for city chicken. Didn't disappoint, still great with very reasonable prices. A must if you are in the area.

I got food to go from here and the machine they use charges extra for credit cards. Use cash. They overcharged my card and then the owner yelled at me for his mistake. Not ever going there again. Been going there for 30 years or more. Never will go there. The food ain't that great.

When you called us, we investigated the extra charge of $3.00. We advised you that it was a mistake in our tips section and apologized for it, and that we would credit it to your account. It normally takes few days for a refund to appear back on the account. You kept calling us 3-4 times every day and complaining... More

This is a great place find Polish/Eastern European cuisine. I had the Polish combo plate and it was delicious. You must add some potato pancakes to round off your meal and wash it down with a good Polish beer. Lots of parking out back but get there early, this place fills up.

We came here for dinner. The menu is pretty big, with the standard Polish fare. I had the combo plate - the stuffed cabbage was pretty good, and the sausage was really good. The baked kraut was interesting....not bad, though. The dill soup didn't have enough dill for my personal liking, but it was still good. The prices were very... More

We come here about once a month. Pierogis are authentic and delicious. The dill pickle soup is the best around. You can't go wrong coming here. It's always busy but you never have to wait to long for a table. Friendly wait staff.

There was good value at this restaurant. The food was ok. It was too bland for my taste. If you like spicy type food Polish food is not for you. The service was great and the price right and was authentic Polish food

Quite good food. Authentic polish menu. Nice homey atmosphere. Good service and reasonable prices. Parking adjacent and close to some interesting new places opening in Hamtramck. Worth a drive to check out.

Description
In what was formerly called the 'Workman's Cooperative', today's Polonia Restaurant is hardly a well-kept secret (filled most nights with eager pierogi patrons and kielbasa fanatics) and the price points, under $10, makes it a huge Hamtramck draw. The original premise of the restaurant, formed in 1927, was to offer familiar Polish dishes to immigrants making the transition to a new country. Now, it serves equally well as a place for non-Poles to discover the best of traditional recipes, all from a spotless kitchen. As a cooperative, it no longer exists, but the spirit of good pricing, good neighbor jawboning and down-to-earth service still imbues the place, and countless leaders in the local business community can be seen in the comfortable booths and tables, enjoying meals beneath the detailed murals depicting Polish country life. Stuffed cabbage, kielbasa with sauerkraut, and pierogis are all homemade (including the sausage), and to be had at the reasonable prices that are part of the Hamtramck vibe. If you are brave enough, try the czarnina (duck soup), which is loaded with dried fruit and makes for a truly authentic flavor experience.
