Always a good choice for a great sandwich and soup. Service is quick and variety of "designer" sandwiches is great.

Great vegetarian and regular specials! I love their beans and rice bowl. Watch the world go buy on quiet Inn Street the cutest spot downtown.

We had lunch here -- vegetable soup and sandwiches. They were good but a little pricey. It's just a little place, cozy and nice. We found it just average for Newburyport, but we're not local, so maybe we need to try it again sometime.

A friend and I ate lunch here based on good reviews. There were many choices, and I guess I chose the wrong item. The vegetables in the roasted veggie wrap didn't appear to have been roasted, nor did they have any roasted taste. There was too much vinaigrette in the wrap, making it a messy eating experience and dominating the... More

I was driving to Newburyport and started thinking that I have not had the tomato soup at The Purple Onion in along time. So I had to go try it again and see if it was as good as I remember. It was very good and like the last couple of times I had it I believe it is the... More

My wife and I were looking for a quick lunch stop and literally dropped in on the Purple Onion while trying to find another place. We were warmly greeted by the owner who made some vegetarian suggestions for my wife. I had the chili which came with a bag of tortilla chips and my wife had a piece of homemade... More

Very good Roast Turkey Sandwich with Roasted peppers and Chipotle spread( although it was better tasting in the past with more care takin' in its preperation- but still good). Excellent Mushroom/Chicken Teryaki Bowl. Good selection of quenching sodas. The Cheese taco needs some inspiration and the chilli is just o.k.. Overlooks the State St. Playground that my daughter and I... More

Stopped here on our drive up to Maine. A bit hard to find even with GPS - just ask one of the folks walking around or in a shop and you'll be directed to it. Food is wraps, soups and sandwiches - made to order and very good - vegetarian friendly . Tiny shop, but found plenty of seats -... More

We stopped at this cafe at the end of Labor Day while looking for something that was healthy, tasty, and not overly expensive. Purple Onion delivered on all counts. My lime and black bean salad came served over brown rice, guacamole and diced tomatoes. It was totally delicious and I'd go back for it again when in town. My wife... More
