This nearby ice cream parlor will give you tastes of their unusual flavors like lychee, mango, and an old favorite, rum raisin. There are other more neutral flavors like peach for those who aren't into the island tastes which this small business makes on site.

We split a banana split and we'll be back to do it again! They have traditional ice cream flavors like mint chocolate chip.

I guess when I go for ice cream, I want something more traditional. Jamaican ice cream just doesn't have the American flair I wanted. Perhaps something in the store name should alert customers to the fact that their ice creams are mostly loaded with chunks of fruit, coconut and - oddly - beer flavoring. The few tables out front are... More

York Castle ice cream is the richest, freshest ice cream you can get, short of making it yourself. And they've got unique flavors, like soursop, ginger, and even Guinness -- no, that doesn't "taste LIKE" Guinness stout, but it tastes OF Guinness, and it's delicious! Very expensive, compared to Baskin-Robbins. AND WORTH EVERY PENNY.

I have loved both of my visits to York Castle. They have a book at the counter with pictures of the tropical fruits featured in their ice creams. I tasted three flavors, all creamy and delicious, and went with a junior scoop of soursop. It was extremely satisfying. I also enjoyed my interaction with the man working there, who was... More

Haven't had great swiss chocolate ice cream since Gifford's closed years ago--but they have it. The coconut lacked pieces of real coconut, but was still good. We'll try the tropical flavors in warmer weather, although we'll return before the spring.

Don't miss the real fruit flavors that make this ice cream so special. Their seasonal fresh peach was my favorite when they were in Silver Spring, but now I love the mango and tropical flavors even more, as they are hard to find elsewhere. Paying for the quality ingredients is well worth the price, so keep York Castle in business.... More

Well as a kid I fell in love with the original Gifford's Ice Cream in Silver Spring & Bethesda. Old timer food bloggers know the story about how the guy with York got the original recipes and it has been good to have a source for my beloved Swiss Chocolate. If you have never had this, give it a try.... More

We stayed in Rockville while visiting with another family last week, and like another reviewer, noticed that this place was easy to miss. Thankfully, almost missing the place was the only downside. There are lots of flavors, including many I've never heard of before. The store is definitely willing go let you try plenty of flavors before you decide. My... More

This place is a great find, too bad it's a long way from DC. It's across the street from the Great Wall Chinese supermarket that we go to once in a while. But until it was pointed out by some friends I'd never noticed its existence as it was small and easy to miss. It's in a very small stand... More
