This was a midweek treat for us [a thank you]. The restaurant is tucked away but well worth the finding [the set nav knew where it was :-)]. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was very well presented. The dining rooms are split up to give quiet privacy, really rather pleasant. Highly recommended.

Our experience at the Crooked Billet was as expected after having read all the reviews on here. The food was really lovely and very well presented. My OH did have a little bit of dry chicken but he said that it didn't ruin his meal. The only quarm that we had was that the food came out very quickly between... More

My parents used to take us here in the early 1970's, my brother and I had to sit outside or in the car with lemonade and crisps, while our parents sat inside the cosy pub interior with beer from the cellar. The beer (very good, Brakespears Organic) is still brought up from the cellar as there is no bar in... More

Finding The Crooked Billet is a bit of a challenge - it is tucked away on a tiny road off a side road. But it is worth persisting to discover a hidden and atmospheric pub restaurant. Twenty five years ago it was completely unsophisticated; now you can occasionally discover pop stars having an impromptu lunch. Good food, and not expensive.

Went here for a celebration meal. Excellent gourmet pub food with a restaurant flair. Cosy atmosphere with a full wine cellar. Prices were at a premium but worth it for the service and menu. Worth booking a taxi in advance as the venue is hidden in the countryside!

Went for lunch with the family, and they were very accomodating for the various dietry requirements in our group. They have a gluten free menu which highlights the dishes that are gluten free, or can easily be adapted to be. Although there is no vegan menu, the chef offered several options for starters, mains and desserts. I was offtered: Starter... More

This pub, which apparently was the source of the term 'gastropub' is a total gem which makes you wonder why anyone started a pub in such a remote back lane, even a couple of centuries ago. But the reality is that it is just perfect apart from ine thing. You gave to drive to get there. The wines stacked up... More

This is a pub with oodles of Character! Yes it's higgledey-piggledy but that's part of the intrigue. Walls festooned with old photographs that are interesting and add to the ambiance And a lovely wood fire - what else can one ask for ? Well what's the food like - I suppose That's an easy answer - superb We were a... More

We were lucky that we could book a table here early in the evening as that gave us time to wander round the restaurant taking in all the old photos displayed there before most other people arrived. We had memories of the small pub just serving beer in Nobby's time in the sixties and it is still idiosyncratic, but in... More
