So incredibly pleased with the service, food, selection, view. Everything was top notch! Coming from Nantucket, we were pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable prices too! Our dinner was incredibly romantic, I believe the staff could tell how happy we were and they respectfully allowed us all the time we wanted to enjoy our appetizers, dinners and 2 desserts (I'm... The Claremont's flagship restaurant is named " Xanthus," which is also the first name of the Civil War artist whose painting of this hotel hangs on the wall in the hotel's parlor. The staff is more laid back nowadays than it was in the late nineteenth century when the hotel welcomed its first guests. I noticed that hotel guests swinging... More

This was one of our worst dining experiences ever! When we arrived to check in (we were staying at the hotel for the 3rd time) the hostess seemed confused, Apparently, she had checked in another group under our reservation. We were left standing at the desk as she went over to check on this table, Not sure why that was... More

We only visited for dinner to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary whilst on holiday in the U.S. (staying in SW Harbor at the time) Food was fabulous (I had the tab, scallops and chocolate soufflé ) All perfectly cooked and the magical setting overlooking the water is perfect. Definitely worth a visit.

This is an excellent restaurant choice even if you are not staying at the Claremont. Delicious and elegant.

The atmosphere was beautiful the service was excellent the food was superb. The prices were a little high but well worth it. I would recommend this to anyone looking to go out for a special meal.

Touring Mt. Desert Island, we stopped for a light lunch here. We selected an outside table, no umbrella. That turned out okay, the day was cool, but I strongly recommend waiting for a table with an umbrella. We tried the clam chowder and a Cuban sandwich. Both were quote good. Service makes huge difference and our Bulgarian waitress was just... More

We went out with friends who live in the area. This is a comfortable but classy dining experience in an historic inn. Very well-priced for the quality. We had a variety of starters and main courses, and each was very good. There is talent in the kitchen, whether you order one of the more traditional preparations (e.g. grilled swordfish or... More

We stopped here for cocktails to enjoy the view and quiet on a Monday night. Restaurant was packed and seemed lovely for a date night, but alas we had our three kids with us. Service was a little slow to get drinks on the porch- but it was a Monday so probably under staffed. View is gorgeous and we managed... More

This restaurant has an amazing view of the water and is a nice place to dine. The menu is nice. I had fish and it was delicious. My husband ordered steak and the waitress (who was apparently having a bad night) brought him out the same dish I had ordered. She gave some excuse as to why she was having... More

Each table in Xanthus boasts a view of Acadia's mountains, Somes Sound, and the outer islands of Frenchman's Bay. A buffet breakfast and dinner are served daily when the hotel is open. The new hotel bar, which features an atrium skylight and detailed woodwork, is a popular setting for pre- dinner cocktails. Evening dinner service includes candlelit tables, linen, fresh flowers and attentive service. The menu changes regularly and features thoughtful regional cuisine using the finest local ingredients, fresh seafood and organic produce. Our wine list is carefully selected and offers interesting wines from around the world, both by the bottle and the glass. In keeping with the setting, appropriate attire is requested in the evening, and while jackets are not required, they are suggested.
