I went out with my girlfriends for a night out. We picked Xanthus as none of us had ever been there before. The lovely dining room manager, Melissa, showed us to our table right away and we had an ocean view. I had the panzanella salad, delicious, and swordfish. Melissa suggested that I have it medium to well and it... More

The evening waitstaff was fantastic. The breakfast waitstaff needs intensive training in customer service and manners.

Beautiful scenic waterfront dining. Ordered BLT sandwich, which would have been perfect if they had blotted the fat off the bacon. It was too greasy. Skimped on tomatoe. But it was on wonderful bread. With this great flavored mayo. Waitress got our drink order wrong. Yet, i'd go again. They were pleasant.

We ate at Xanthus three times this summer. The food is outstanding; the service is pleasant; the views from the dining room are spectacular. This is among the very finest places to eat on Mt Desert Island. In addition to dinner, we also enjoyed an superb breakfast.

My wife and I were on Mt. Desert Island celebrating our honeymoon and we're looking for a place to have a "fancy" dinner date. When we found this place with a dress code, we figure this met our needs. We got all dressed up and when we got their the hostess was not very nice, she look at us, wrote... More

Xanthus is about a 30 minute drive from Bar Harbor, where we spent a couple days. Thanks, to Tripadvisor, we found this place. The dining room is spacious and uncrowded. The service is attentive and responsive. The view from the dining room is magical -- a lawn that flows down to a picturesque bay with boats and a rocky shoreline.... More

This is a bit more of a refined place (it's vacation so you don't have to be fancy, but no jeans). The service is stellar and the wine list quite good. Beautifully presented appetizers, then we had excellent fish and pork, with nice sauces that did not overpower. We enjoy sitting by the window to see the view of Somes... More

The dining room has the feel of a formal private club which, in our experience was sustained by the liveried staff and Frank Sinatra music selection. Luckily we had our pick of tables with a broad view of the harbor and islands beyond and a bright young waitress. I had a delicious goat cheese tart over warm spinach and bok... More

Each table in Xanthus boasts a view of Acadia's mountains, Somes Sound, and the outer islands of Frenchman's Bay. A buffet breakfast and dinner are served daily when the hotel is open. The new hotel bar, which features an atrium skylight and detailed woodwork, is a popular setting for pre- dinner cocktails. Evening dinner service includes candlelit tables, linen, fresh flowers and attentive service. The menu changes regularly and features thoughtful regional cuisine using the finest local ingredients, fresh seafood and organic produce. Our wine list is carefully selected and offers interesting wines from around the world, both by the bottle and the glass. In keeping with the setting, appropriate attire is requested in the evening, and while jackets are not required, they are suggested.
