I SO wanted to love this place. You walk in to an oh-so friendly crew (our server was a great guy and very attentive), fantastic old style pub ambience, eclectic menu choices and awesome on tap selections (with names like "Ex Wife: extra bitter") but...More

Great place with friendly service and delicious comfort food! Warm wooden atmosphere good for couples or families. Amazing fish and chips! Beer variety is good and fun - but not the best brews around.

Had the pot roast with the cask ale made here and was very satisfied. Service was attentive, but not hovering. Portion size was substantial and taste was excellent. A lively crowd of diners with frequent turnover, so though crowded, tables open up on a regular...More

Hallowell is a great little town to visit when in the Augusta area, and the Liberal Cup did not disappoint. We visited on a very busy night, and enjoyed a couple cocktails in the pub with very friendly local patrons while we waited for our...More

Liberal Cup is our go-to place for fish and chips which are fantastic - fresh and tasty and done to perfection. Then there are the fries...awesome. They brew their own beer and offer half a dozen choices each day - ales, lagers, stout. They have...More

I had a business lunch here today with a friend. The Reuben sandwich and sweet potato fries were superb. I find the latter, when I order them elsewhere, to either be good or poor with not much in between. The sweet potato fries at The...More

Not having visited the Liberal Cup in months, friends suggested we meet for a relaxing Friday evening meal in Hallowell. Our wait for a table wasn't onerous (reservations can be made for parties of 6 or more), and we were seated within 30 minutes of...More

We have come up to Maine every year for the last 12 years. Since we discovered The Liberal Cup 6 or 7 years ago, we now always arrange our plans so we can be sure to eat here, at the very least, twice. My husband...More

Had lunch at The Liberal Cup while in Maine. I had the Cuban and my wife had the fish tacos. Both very good. Would eat here again.

Hi, Why don't you call and speak to the restaurant directly. Only they would know that answer.

The Liberal Cup Public House & Brewery in Hallowell, ME, is our take on the traditional English pub. Our mission is to provide a gathering place for our local friends and seasonal visitors to enjoy good food and drink. Like the pubs that dot the English countryside, The Liberal Cup is an inviting and cozy spot to bring family and friends. And while the draughts will conjure that familiar flavor of jolly ol’ England (ales and bitters being our specialty), we’re happy to brag that the food will not. Our award-winning chef has taken classic pub fare and elevated it with fresh, local ingredients. His daily specials highlight Maine's seasonal offerings and on the weekends he likes to turn The Cup into a gastropub with his haute and nouvelle cuisine creations.
