I paid $7 for a bowl of potatoes in cream. It was supposed to be a seafood chowder, but there was on one shrimp and one small scallop, but no actual flavor. Nothing. The people were nice enough. Overall , I will never go back and hope more people read these reviews first-- I should have !

Went for lunch here with my wife and two sons. The seafood chowder was just plain awful. Lived in New England all my life and make my own from scratch. This was atrocious. The cold lobster roll was a perfect example of culinary laziness. To add insult to injury the prices are so far out of whack. 7.99 for a... More

We were really in the mood for some great New England Clam Chowder, and were very excited to try the Freeport Chowder House on our last visit to Freeport. What a truly awful disappointment it was. I do not write negative reviews very often, nor do I write them casually, but this place failed to live up to even the... More

The meal was mediocre but overpriced, the staff was somewhat friendly, the place wasn't very clean, and the chowder was scolding hot. My tongue still hurt 3 days later...

In a town full of tourist trap restaurants this place is the worst. The place is dirty. The prices are high. The food is terrible and could seriously sicken you. The staff - appeared to be a grandfather and granddaughter - fought with each other the whole time we were were there. Maybe it was good at one point. Stay... More

The chowder was watery and not very flavorful and the fried clams were mediocre at best. We decided to try it because the place was packed and we figured the food must be great. We were very disappointed!

After trying several places along the coast of Maine, closed for the season, we journeyed to Freeport and found the Freeport Chowder House. We shared a lobster roll, delicious, and both had Haddock chowder. There was plenty of fish, potatoes and onions in the chowder. While sitting there and eating a large group came in and were expressing dissatisfaction in... More

This is possibly the worst meal we've had. Sounded good, award winning chowder it said on the signs. The place was extremely small and dirty. Since it was so full we figured it must be good and placed an order for the lobster special, a crab special and a kids meal of chicken fingers. With a bottled water and ginger... More

My first impression was the place was dirty. Dirty floor, dirty windows. The old guy who took my order had on no apron and his shirt was filthy. His hands were covered in flour and some other food as he took my order and money. After taking my money, he went back to cooking and didn't clean his hands. My... More

We stopped for a quick lunch while visiting Freeport. We enjoyed the special, which was a small chowder and a small lobster roll. It was a good lunch.
