For a Saturday morning breakfast, it is one of the best you can get in town. Breakfast is very good. Lunch and dinner are okay. Sometimes the food is not seasoned very well but easy fix. Overall usually a wait to be seated during peak times and the service is friendly.
This is my most favorite place to sit and visit with family and friends! The food and coffee is wonderful! I love the owners and the staff! They treat you like family! They remember what you want to eat and drink and call you by name.
Was visiting a friend from Lake Charles and he suggested we eat here on Saturday am. We arrived at 10:45 and upon arriving and waiting at the counter for a few minutes, a young blonde headed man came to greet us. But lets talk more about the Applewood smoked bacon. Delicious, sweet and savory flavor. So good, we both ordered and extra serving. Shaunette, our server, was pleasant, cheerful, and served us with a smile. We love going to Southern Spice and we will be back again. This restaurant offers perfect home-style southern cooking. The plate-lunch was fantastic. Chicken-fried steak was excellent. Liver was excellent. Very generous portions and a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

As usual, we got a good heart meal at a good price, prepared the way we like it. Low sodium diets are hard to follow, but these folks were more than happy to oblige. The gumbo is awesome as well as the other great dishes. Just wish they could figure out how to prepare these without sodium!
The atmosphere is very local and down-home. If you are on a diet- do not come here. We ordered the fried mushrooms (homemade and amazing) and the onion rings (also homemade) for appetizers. We ordered the country fried steak- which was recommended (excellent-my mom said it was in the top 3 she's ever had and she is a connoisseur of... More
