The food was excellent. The atmosphere was excellent and the wait staff was excellent. One of my favorite restaurants in Lexington.

Went here for our 26th anniversary and the food did not let down, it was simply amazing. I had the beef shoulder and was incredible. My wife did the NY strip and was cooked to perfection and the grits where out of this world. The...crafted cocktails where a refreshing sidekick. Now to the not so good, the service. First don't let them know your there for a special occasion, you'll be treated like an outsider that is only there for a one time meal, so sad cause we would've definitely been back. Our server was nice, but did give the same level of service she gave the rest of her other tables, she informed them of the specials, but decided to leave that part out when discussing the menu. The manager took his time to introduce himself to every table in our vicinity, but ours. The level of service we received made us feel like we just didn't belong. So while the food was excellent, the service was that of a low rate hole in the wall. Such a shame, as I had hopes of making this establishment a part of our regular rotation.More
Hello! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience. Please accept my most humble apologies for the level of service you were provided! That is most certainly not normal for us, because we pride ourselves as much on our gracious hospitality and...More
I was surprised they charged 3% to use a credit card. I know that's been legal since 2013, but it leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Do you really want that to be the customer's final moment of the evening? The wine prices are...already sky high.More
A great outside area to enjoy drinks and/or meal. Good service, wonderful menu and a reasonable price/value.
Celebrated my husband’s birthday with another couple. It was the first time for all of us and we will definitely be back. Such unusual infusions of flavors for delectable dinner selections. I had the beef shoulder tender with a crab hollandaise sauce and Maker’s Mark...Glace with mashed potatoes. One of the best dinners that I have had in Lexington in some time. My husband had the bone in pork chop and it looked very good. He enjoyed it! We ate on the patio and the servers turned the heaters on—it was very comfortable.More
Hello, and thanks so much for choosing us for your husband's birthday dinner. We're delighted you enjoyed everything and hope to see you back soon! Kind regards, Chris Hutchison / Director of Operations
On our way to a concert, the Fat Man stopped at Coles 735 Main in Lexington, KY. Coles is an eclectic, locally sourced New American cuisine served in a circa-1938 restaurant space. @coles735main We both decided on the same drink, the Black-eyed Buffalo. This libation...is made with Buffalo Trace, Gifford Mure blackberry liqueur, Domaine Canton, ginger liqueur and lemon. It is Bourbon up front but is mellowed by the blackberry, ginger, and lemon finish the drink. It has a good balance, but the ginger liqueur gives it a slightly watery taste. We started with the Pork Tostadas, which come with braised pork, corn tortillas, toasted poblano sour cream, iceberg lettuce, pickled red onion, cotija cheese, and cilantro. The tortilla is very crunchy; the pork is juicy, tender, and flavorful with some slight heat. A squeeze of lime gives it a nice fresh bite. The lettuce cuts through the heat, the pickled red onion adds a vinegar bite with texture, and the cheese adds a saltiness. I tried the special of the day; Pastrami Braised Short Ribs. This is prepared with house-made kimchi, wasabi-washed mashed potatoes, mustard demi-glace, and charred Broccolini. The short ribs are heavily pepper crusted with good flavor and smoke; some bites are dry, while others are very juicy. The Broccolini is crunchy and seasoned well, the potatoes are very smooth, but I do not get the wasabi flavor, and the kimchi is very acidic and salty with a decent heat. It is powerful but fits well with the short ribs. The mustard reduction has a good flavor, but I wanted more mustard pop with a larger serving. My fiancé tried the center cut Filet Mignon, red pepper roasted Weisenberger grits, and house-made compound butter. The grits are presented tater tot style, flavorful with a slight crunch and velvety smooth on the inside and a touch of heat; the butter adds a lovely silkiness to the steak, but the steak was so tender it was the very definition of melt-in-your-mouth.. Coles offers a handcrafted menu with several starters, salads, and entrées. I recommend a reservation. The service was not bad. The Fat Man says Coles 735 Main is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.More
Delicious meal. High end menu choices. All was great except the table was very drafty with servers going in and out an adjacent exterior door to serve "polar bears" drinkers sitting outdoors. Brrrr. Ask for a table far away from that ice door. Loved the...histoic mural around the room of fox hunters. Swell evening with my honey.More
Took two clients to Coles for dinner and we all enjoyed it a great deal. Nice, comfortable surroundings, good acoustics for conversation, and very good food. Service was above and beyond anything I've experienced recently in the Lexington area. Appetizers were great, we got a...variety of entrees (halibut, steak, pork chop) and we were all pleased with our choices. Sides are shareable and good portions. We had the brussel sprouts and the mac & cheese. Both were extremely good. Unfortunately we did not save room for dessert but I'm sure it was good.More
We showed up 30 minutes early for our reservation. It was no problem, they took care of us immediately. We had a Chef’s special as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. My husband ordered the filet and I got the salmon salad as my...entree. Both were delicious. I highly recommend this restaurantMore
Coles 735 Main has so much potential. Unfortunately they didn't live up to it the night we were there. It has an interesting menu with a contemporary flair and enough wait staff to accommodate all of its diners. However the night we ate there, there...was a private party on the patio and both the kitchen and wait staff were overwhelmed. Our waiter tried to help out the kitchen by giving us plenty of time to look at the menu before we ordered. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees at the same time. The appetizer came fairly soon but we waited another 45 minutes for the entrees on a weeknight. And surprisingly, the entrees were not cooked to perfection. My duck was overdone and vegetables unseasoned; my husband's vegetables were also unseasoned and my son's pasta was just ok. With the wait on the main course, we decided to skip dessert - we'd already been there 1 1/2 hours. Wish that I could give Cole 735 Main more than 2 stars.More
I travel around the country, moving once a month and working from home. When I have a birthday, I'm generally in a new town where I don't know anyone. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the best food that town has to offer! I...picked Coles to celebrate based on reviews, and I was certainly not disappointed. The place has great ambiance, a super friendly staff, and amazing food. I was given a nice private table as requested, and the waiter (Caleb) was just as attentive as if I'd been with a large party. The lobster bisque was lovely and I can't recommend the creme brûlée highly enough. Excellent experience.More
IN a world of poor service, bad quailty and limited selection this place rocks on all levels. The server was excellent and took pride in his job.. He seemed to be proud to be working there. The pork chop was absolutely amazing and the cookie...for dessert was yumsky.More
The duck/apricot meatballs were delicious and my wife liked her scallops a great deal as well. The drinks were of a good size. Our waiter was knowledgeable tho a trifle supercilious. Our meal with two drinks was over $140. We could have eaten at either...of the two other good restaurants in town for less than $120.More
My wife and I went for our 2 year wedding anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated in their outdoor seating. However, the reservation we made explicitly stated we preferred indoor seating. When we told our waiter, he quickly and respectfully relocated us. The excellent...service was a theme throughout our time there. The restaurant itself is very nice on the inside. The environment has a nice mix of fancy and relaxed. But let’s get to the IMPORTANT stuff… the food! For starters, I ordered the lobster bisque and my wife ordered the Brie. The lobster bisque was very flavorful, with a nice amount of spice - which was unique to this bisque opposed to others I’ve had before! The Brie was good - not great. Very tomato heavy. The homemade crackers were a little odd, but not unpleasant. Overall - I would opt to try other options than the Brie as a starter! We both ordered the filet mignon. They were UNBELIEVABLE. One of the best steaks we’ve ever had. The grits were phenomenal as well. My wife ordered the mashed potatoes, which she said were the best she’s ever had. I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi, which were also excellent. I’ve never had gnocchi served like that before. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a strong onion flavor throughout. I loved them, but if you aren’t an onion fan… you may want to look to another side. Overall - great experience! Highly recommend!More
The daily special appetizers were different and very tasty. Entrees of pork chop and duck meat balls excellent. God cocktails and wine. Overall, excellent dining and superb service.
