Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great spot, meals and staff amazing. We were in Rochester for a couple of days and ended up having dinner two nights in a row at the Shamrock, and it didn’t disappoint!

My family thought this would be a wonderful place to eat dinner… and we had seen it a lot.. well since we were a big group we booked a private room. We were bored and we saw a poster say the shamrock. has spirits we...thought like happy ones of good times or drinks as in spirits but NO .we read it and it stated that GHOSTS AND SPIRTS had been spotted well this wasn’t worse of all food came late and a burger was ‘inedible’ also once we left I VOMITED and got a bad stomach ache was this FOOD POISING? Well we went to room 2 with the stairs to take a group photo and they told us more about the spirit some say she’s good. Her name was JENNY so yeah that was my reivewMore

Out for a Sunday drive and stopped at the Shamrock Hotel in Rochester. I ordered the Parma of course and my partner had the chicken salad. Service was prompt. Food arrived quickly. The salad was excellent with quite a variety and a very tasty dressing....Usually I find I will leave most of a pub salad but the plate was spotless when I finished. Chips were crisp and hot and the parma was a good size, tender and moist without being huge and over the top. Perfect size for a Sunday lunch. The chicken salad was full of bite size pieces of herb coated chicken accompanied by a crisp, freshly made salad with that same excellent dressing. Highly recommend and great value for money.More

An unexpected gem! Stopped to grab lunch on our way to Echuca. Ordered Calamari and Steak off the lunch menu for $40. Didn’t pay much and didn’t expect a lot. We were surprised on the size, quality and presentation of the food and we were...both very impressed. The pub is a grandiose 1800’s building in the centre of town and easily found. The bistro furnishings are a bit tired but clean and service is quick and friendly. We would happily stop in for another meal when passing by.More

It was a busy night at the Shamrock but we went early and the staff managed to fit us in. Service was great. The mushroom lasagne is really worth trying. It is different but what a lovely meal. Chicken schnitzel was moist and tasty. We...really enjoyed our meal.More

We each had a different meal which we shared. All were very tasty. The roast pumpkin was a mix of flavours and very well cooked. The salt and pepper calamari was very tender with lots of excellent salad with a delicious dressing. The flathead fillets...were also great. If you don’t like crisp vegetables then you would be disappointed. The venue was quite noisy but overall this is a place that always seems to have excellent food and I would recommend a visit.More

Big menu with plenty to choose from, including a really lovely roast pumpkin dish for the vegetarians. Staff were courteous & food was out within 15 minutes. Great place to stop for lunch when visiting the area to see the silo artwork.

This a grand old pub over a hundred years old. The menu however is up to date. Both of our meals were very good and the beer was cold. We would go back.

Lunch for three resulted in different meals of pumpkin risotto, flat head tails with chips and veggie and steak sambo. All meals were large with excellent vegetable selections. We were all impressed with our meals, being very tasty and well priced. Chips were excellent. Coffee...was satisfactory. Well worth a visit.More

Food at this pub is yummy. Will definitely come back again and again. Been here many times and never had a bad experience. Sometimes have to wait a little but the wait is worth it. The staff do a great job as well.

Upshot of this rant: stay away....shockingly rude blonde dining room staffer ruined what could have been a great meal. Didn't get any dinner. We watched people wait 20 mins in-line to order. We could not buy a drink because of the line to get to...the bar was the order-meals-line. Steer clear of this pub, looks awesome from outside, look, and go to another pub!!! We are easy to please, polite and always think staff are doing their best ( so have never left a negative review or complained - ever) , but never had an experience like this evening.... when I ordered our meals I asked for no capsicum, like I always do, as I have a capsicum allergy. Dark haired lady who took my order was pleasant and said should be fine but deffered to blonde staffer who was rude and said probably wont happen, 'salad has capsicum in it', I said I was happy just with mixed lettuce... she huffed. I paid, meals came out in good time and looked fantastic, but then I saw chips were flavoured ( I have to stick to plain salt, had no idea they would be flavoured), so, after a 15 min wait in the queue at the bar, I explained my problem and asked if it was possible to just get a side plate with a few plain chips? My meal and hubby's were coldish by now. I was told no, even though I said I didn't want a fuss - just a few plain chips, not a new meal as they were busy, and I'd never expect a new meal because of my food intolerance) ....she grabbed my plate, came back from the kitchen immediately and said 'you can't have any of that meal, it has praprika on it which is related to bell pepper'. I don't have a paprika allergy. Hubby's meal was cold, the queue to order at the bar was still 15-20 mins long ( poor lady with dark hair was doing her best running the busy front bar, taking dining room orders and doing drinks), I had no chance of buying a wine so I asked for a refund. Not once was I asked if praprika was a problem ( it isn't!!). Blonde staffer was hugely rude, I left with no dinner, feeling stressed and disappointed, hubby didn't enjoy what I thought was a great pasta due to stress and sitting alone at the table while I waited in line 15 mins.More

The outside is actually quite lovely. Also has a decent beer garden out the back. Service was okay, though beer selection was limited. Still quite a lovely pub.

A group of 4 of us went to the Shamrock for dinner tonight. We all had lovely meals which exceeded our expectations. We had 2 of the meals from the specials board - lamb kofta with a greek salad and the chicken dahl curry -...both had great flavour and interesting combinations of accompniaments - the chef clearly understands the balance of flavours and cooking techniques. The steak and the seafood selection off the standard menu were also excellent. The standard of meals we had tonight would not be out of place in a Gastro pub in Sydney or Melbourne. We will definitely be back next time we are visiting Rochester.More
