Such a fun and sweet place in downtown Lawrence. You know it's good when: they have homey mugs in different colors for your coffee, the coffee is bottomless/serve yourself, they let you substitute avocado for meat, you hear grad students greeting their professors at neighboring tables. And sure enough, the food was great. I had the breakfast biscuit sandwich (substituting avocado for the meat) and it was so delicious. Not cheap for the amount of food but I'd still recommend this place for a brunch-seeker in Lawrence!

Located in downtown Lawrence on the main street, this is convenient and easy to access during shopping or pursuing the area. Service is prompt and proper. The omelets are good and prepared well with numerous options available. The home potatoes are the only potatoes option and they are on the mushy side and seasoned very differently than the norm and not necessarily ideally IMHO. Cost is very reasonable.

This was our first visit to The Roost Restaurant on Mass Street in Lawrence. Late on a Saturday morning, we were grateful that there are so many shops close by, as our wait was over an hour. At 11:30 am we were all starving & grateful that they served breakfast all day. Our party of five ordered Pancakes, Biscuits & Gravy, Granola Bowl, Bacon, and the Roost Breakfast Sandwich. The food came reasonably quickly & everything was tasty. We were a little dissapointed that the Bacon was overcooked & the hot drinks (Coffee & Hot Chocolatte) were only lukewarm. Good Breakfast Menu!!

My favorite aspect to this establishment was the vibe/atmosphere. Super homey and cozy. It was really cute that they had bottomless coffee that you filled yourself. I had the bagel and lox. Not inexpensive but it was delicious. They did forget to put the cream on the plate. I had to ask for it. Thought I might be charged extra but I wasn't. I would certainly return.

I was in Lawrence this past week watching my Grandson at a KU Soccer Camp. It started at 9:00AM and they were released from the Camp at Noon. It was nearly 100 degrees, so I decided to do something cool. When I was a resident of Lawrence, my favorite breakfast place was The Roost. Is it still the same? There was only one way to know...so I headed to Mass Street for breakfast at The Roost. It looked the same, other than an expanded outside seating area. Due to the temperature, I chose the air conditioning and an inside tale. Once seated, my waitress appeared with a bottle of water and a menu. Everything about The Roost is good. The breads are all from a local artisan bakery. The jams and jellies are all made in-house. Almost all of their food items are locally sourced. I chose to have two eggs over medium, home fries, whole wheat toast. and made in-house sausage patties. Ground and roasted in-house coffee is the way to go. My waitress was excellent, and never let my coffee cup ever get lower than 1/2 full without stopping by, and filling it. She offered me their homemade apple butter or peach jam. I chose both! My breakfast was wonderful! My waitress was exceptional. So, I was delighted to go "home," and find my favorite Lawrence breakfast place still my favorite!

I don't usually go to a restaurant to eat a turkey sand which that comes on white bread, mayo and tomato which sums up the menu here. I was shocked how busy the place was for lunch considering it is the most bland boring menu I have ever seen. Inside is boring and drab like the menu. Staff was nice and attentive which says a lot considering the lack of good service today. Not my cup of tea but they are very busy so to each his own.

Unique menu items, well prepared...friendly staff. Unfortunately, the menu isn't user friendly far farsighted eyes with the combination of relatively low light conditions and a menu printed on brown paper with a lot of small, black print (aka not much contrast). I ordered the French Toast, solely because the print for it was large enough for me to read. I did suggest to our waitperson that the hostess station might stock some "reading glasses" for folks like I am who forgot my bifocals.

Each person in my family is a big fan of this restaurant. I'm addition to the terrific coffee and food selections, the chai tea latte is the best in Lawrence. Great food. Friendly, prompt service. A treasure right on Mass Street!

I have been trying to get here several times during trips to Lawrence, which ought to tell you something. Finally, we visited our daughter on an off weekend...no big events in town. Still had a 45 min wait at 10 a.m., but it was well worth it. I had the "rooster"...french toast, eggs, bacon. Incredible. $12, but well worth it. I will be back.

Great food and friendly staff. The Roost is located in downtown Lawrence. It’s a popular place and is often busy, but definitely worth the wait.

Had their potato cakes, eggs and toast. Eggs were eggs. Toast was toast. That's to be expected. But potato cakes... wow. They were amazing. Perfectly fried. Held together just as they should. Perfection.
