The atmosphere is great and the food is better. Great place to eat if you want casual or if you want to dress up a little. Definitely worth the trip.

The staff in the lounge are wonderful, engaging, and make fantastic drinks. The chianti is excellent and pairs well with the Italian dishes. The Italian nachos are the best appetizer on the menu - you have to give them a try. I have had nothing bad on the menu here. On Tuesdays, they have discounted pizzas in the bar -... More
Sam and Gabe's food is top-notch for sure -- but I often visit after dinner, and visit the lounge to hear talented local musicians play in a great space. You can also dine in the lounge, if you choose -- and whether it's for drinks and dinner or just drinks -- the servers are always efficient and courteous. (Nice wine... More
Sam & Gabe's was offering a Groupon and it was my hubby's birthday, so I decided it was a good time to try them again. I have been there a few times over the years and it has always been good. I understand they have undergone some changes in management, etc., but I found it still very good. Reservations were... More
It started with one of the best martini's I've had in a long time...stirred, not shaken. I've never had a bad meal at a restaurant that serves a good cocktail and Sam & Gabe's kept the streak alive! Excellent prime rib and my wife's encrusted halibut was off the charts. We are snowed in, in Des Moines and I'm going... More
The new owner knocked down the divider in the main dining area, so the atmosphere is not as romantic. The open room is much noisier. My favorite menu items, stuffed peppers and Italian lasagna are gone. Jerry T., the previous owner, obviously did not come by our table to say hello. Neither did the new owner. My Parma Salad was... All of the best items (besides prime rib) were removed from the menu. They were replaced with subpar options. Side options are limited and were tasteless. Side salad is now a la carte. In the past the cost was worth it because the food was fantastic. With my last visit I felt ripped off because I couldn't even finish my... More
This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. How it has changed under new ownership. The quality of the food has declined a tremendous amount. I always ordered the veal piccatta. The last time I had it, they used ground meat and the dish had no flavor. At the same time the prices have gone up. It seems as... More
Although other meals we've had at Sam & Gabes is good the Sunday Brunch is outstanding. The food was great, the atmosphere cozy and the live jazz added a wonderful touch. Plus the price was reasonable!!! Definitely will do this again.
The atmosphere and service were wonderful. The food certainly wasn't at the level we'd experienced before, This was the second time our food was average at best. After the first time we thought surely it was an "off night" everyone has those now & then For years, Sam & Gabe's has been our very FAV restaurant & was our place... More
