We have stopped at River Valley café once before but it was a few years ago. This time we needed to have lunch before arriving in Napier so stopped here because we remembered it being a pleasant café in a lovely country setting. It had changed a little, maybe it has new owners, not too sure. There is now a... More

We were on our way to Napier and looking for somewhere for lunch when we stumbled on this gem. Beautiful home cooked food in lovely surroundings. We loved the gift shop (and spent some money there). I had the beef and mushroom pie - real beef - absolutely awesome pie, with a really lovely tasty salad and a chai latte.... More

A great secret place in the country with outdoor and indoor seating and the best cooking! Proper home made steak and mushroom pies, salads, and fabulous home baking. I had a fruit cake to die for!

My husband and I had visited this cafe on a previous trip to NZ and had a very pleasant experience. Unfortunately the place is now run down and the food and coffee very mediocre. Our cheese scone was so stodgy that it stayed with us the rest of the day. The unbelievably over priced garden ornaments on sale were rusty... More

Called in for a snack on our way to Napier. I ordered a lemon and ginger tea and a toasted sandwich. For tea I got green tea with lemon but thought it petty to complain. The sandwich should have had three fillings but it came with two, one of them I hadn't ordered. I took it back. The woman taking... More

We stopped here for lunch on our way home. Lots art, very relaxing, sat outside in garden. The only letdown was food took half an hour to be served but meal was super delicious. I had scallops with salad. So fresh & cooked perfectly with toasted seeds, very tasty. Was expensive though. If your not in a hurry or on... More

This is an interesting cafe that locals from Hawke's Bay can (or should) visit over the summer. For tourists, it is probably a matter of how much time they have on their trip. The cafe mainly offers mainly outdoor seating, enjoyed best when the weather is nice. Parking spots can be limited so it may be best to come here... More
