When you visit a "Prime" Steakhouse the Meal should outweigh the service every time. Tonight was an exception to that rule. I visited 801 on Des Moines and the so called 16 oz "Prime" Ribeye was no better than a grocery store "Choice" Ribeye. The King of all steaks in my opinion was reduced to a Pawn this evening. I... Excellent steaks, sides and appetizers. Superb service by Michael. We recommend the crab cake appetizer, chop house salad and the mixed salad. Our filets were extremely tender and cooked to perfection. The boursin potatoes had great flavor - between the two of us we could not finish the single order we got. The Gran Marnier soufflé we ordered for dessert... More

This is a steak house! When you get a presentation of each single cut with a detailed description of the flavors you start thinking that you are in the right place for a steak. And once you eat it, you get the confirmation. I had a wonderful 16oz ribeye, cooked at perfection. A strong suggestion : order in time the... More

We went with a large group, and our waitress and supporting staff took exceptional care of us. She helped us pick apps, guided us through entree selection, assisted in finding some great wines, and overall orchestrated a great event for our group. The food was out standing, and the service top flight. Would recommend it to anyone celebrating something spectacular,... More

Quality food and effective service. They could make the sides a bit more diet friendly - no need to drown the "steamed" asparagus in oil, and the green beans in bacon.... I just wish they made the dishes healthier WITHOUT having to specifically ask that they don't trash your arteries. How about making the default dish light on salt and... More

Started with calamari, absolutely excellent. Each did an 8 oz filet with spice rub, and steaks were fine. Didn't really get the spice rub in the filets, but to be honest we were not there for steaks, but for the overall dining experience. Loved the hash browns!

My husband and I had an early Valentine's Day meal with our brother and sister-in-law. We sat at the bar for a while before our reservation and the cocktails are always wonderfully made (and trust me, not stingy on the alcohol)! We sat down and the servers are always knowledgeable about the food and drinks. He suggested an alternative wine... More

Came here while in town for a business trip and this place was highly recommended. Started with the crab cakes which were delicious. For our main course I had the filet which was cooked to perfection and had great flavor. Had the green beans, brussels sprouts and mac n cheese and they were amazing. I was too stuffed to eat... Service was very good, and the steak was good, but not worth the price! Steak should be better seasoned and flavorful. The hash browns we great and priced a little high, but I can overlook. But, the steak is about $15 over priced, $38-40 is a more appropriate price and value.

I love going to 801 for the entire dining experience. This is a great place if you want to relax and enjoy your meal instead of anxiously awaiting your food and rushing out the door. The atmosphere is wonderful, especially around Christmas with all the decor. Like others have suggested, the entrees are overpriced. The side dishes are separate, although... More
