The multi award winning Montania cafe bar restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Nestled right on the edge of the Dandenong Ranges with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a reputation for great food, service and coffee. Our Chef brings to the table an extensive menu with a twist on classic Italian, complimented by a fantastic beverage list. In the mornings kick back with the daily paper, a creamy latte and perfectly poached eggs. What a start to the day! Best news is on weekends we refuse to penalise late risers, offering an all day breakfast menu, with 2 dining areas to choose from.

A small intimate Italian styled restaurant in Fern Tree Gully. Importantly plenty of convenient close parking. Inside or outside dining, your choice. Having dined there
on four occasions the consistency of product and service can be confidently vouched for. The menu is varied and exciting. My choice, the pizzas are excellent . Starters are not provided because of the mouth watering variety of desserts from which to choose. The all day breakfast looks something to try in the future. We were served by Kim who is profession and friendly. Nothing too much trouble even with a
fussy person among our company. Congratulations Kim on your service. Even the
fussy person commented on your excellent service throughout the meal.

Now an established restaurant in Mountain Gate with an Italian bistro flavour but offering a variety of meals to suit omnivores & a few for vegetarians. Always a good spot for a quick coffee & cake, or toast with Vegemite or jam if that is your preference. Median main dish prices.

Many thanks go to the team at Montania FTG for the fabulous celebration they helped us enjoy on the weekend. Special mention to Rylee for her efficiency, patience and flexibility through the booking and planning process. All 17 meals were generous and outstanding quality, and the birthday cake they sourced was incredible! Thanks to all staff involved.

Had breakfast here as a couple.
My husband had a full breakfast and he was quite happy with it.
I ordered the fritters and was terribly disappointed. The fritters were like leather – they were overcooked, too dark, flattened and thin, and virtually tasteless in terms of the constituent ingredients – they tasted like a fried “thing“. They would have to be possibly the worst fritters I’ve ever been served. The dish elements otherwise were fine but the beetroot hummus was overpowering, although this is a matter of taste. The hummus itself was fine.
All our drinks were fine – just as you’d expect.
When I receive a dish that’s not to my liking, I invariably just leave without saying anything – usually it’s an issue of taste and preferences. However my fritters weren’t a matter of just taste – they weren’t executed well at all. My hunch is that the batter was over mixed, the gluten overworked, and then they were cooked with an overly heavy hand and for far too long. As a result, I said something to the restaurant and to be fair they discounted our bill by about 10% even though I suggested that wasn’t necessary. It was a nice gesture but I’d rather pay the full price and have a nice breakfast.
I’ve been to this restaurant many times for breakfast and find their meals okay – nothing to write home about but okay. I’ve rated this experience three stars (average) because our drinks were fine and my husband’s meal was fine, both worth noting. But the fritters were extraordinary in terms of how bad they were and that’s it for me – I won’t return.

Thanks for your feedback. Our crispy corn & jalapeno fritters special were a hit that week & received several compliments. I'm sorry to hear that they did not meet your expectations. I understand our team offered you something else instead when checking how your meals were & could have possible re-written the ending here. The discount was a consolation & I agree, I'd rather pay full price & have a nice meal too. May your future breakfast endeavours be filled with joy :)

Just a little annoyed when i received my 2 poached eggs on toast this morning there was only 1 piece of toast. I just felt for the cost of the breakfast, that 1 piece of toast is cheapskate territory.
Anyone who eats poached eggs knows that the yolk goes everywhere so 1 piece doesn't cut it guys.
Maybe charge a little extra or ask if someone wants 2 pieces. Its not that hard. Other than that, good food.

However our manager would have been more than happy to quickly rectify this if brought to their attention as this dish should be served with 2 pieces of toast.
There must have been some confusion as we also have some flexibility for customized orders.
Next time your in, if something doesn't seem right, please let us know :)

After the Covid19 lock down in Melbourne we have missed going to our local restaurants and sharing a meal with friends and family.
The meal was lovely and the coffee was the best I have had for months.

I love coming to Montana's. It's always the best! The food is always spot on! Perfection everytime! The atmosphere is very comfortable... anytime we have the opportunity to go out for a meal I always want and crave the food here. And I must say.. the customer service is possibly one of the best I have ever had. All the staff are so friendly, but Michael is such a legend!! So welcoming and friendly and I think it ties in the whole experience at Montana's perfectly! Its so nice to have someone welcome you with such a genuine nature, and treating every customer as tho they are a part of an exclusive dining experience. Takes a special person to make everyone feel special. Massive shout out to him! I'm always happy to see his smiling face when I come to dine! Thank you again for the best service and food! Seriously my favourite place to dine!

I’ve being going to montania for years and all ways pretty good. But not this time bought the big breakfast sausage was microwaved, cold cooked mushrooms, cold cooked spinach and the bacon was deep fried dry as a bone and in eatable. They did replace the bacon but 10 minutes later after I had finished the meal. Good service but poor food

I have been here several times. It just gets better, and it has always been awesome!!. From customer service to the food. Tonight was no exception. We had the Calamari Fritta which was just delicious, and I am VERY fussy about this seafood. Amazing menu, and they go out of their way to ensure your requests are met. We took home dessert, which was just yummy. So much care in ensuring our take-home food was presented beautifully. Everyone that works there is just so lovely. I must give an extra thumbs up to Micheal who has served us on the past few occasions. There are 2 things I look for when I go out for a meal. 1 is good food. 2. Good input from your waiter/ waitress. Michael has amazing customer interaction skills. He has a manner that makes you feel so looked after. I live 40 mins from there, and it's a place I never have a problem with travelling to, to have that great eating out experience. If you haven't been, you are missing out!! So give it a go!! <3

This is by far the best bistro style restaurant in the Mountain Gate & Ferntree Gully area.
The food is always fresh & well prepared and presented, and the prices are moderate.
Wine, spirits & beer are available at or near bar prices, including some boutique beers on tap or bottled.
The staff are friendly and the service very good, even at the busiest of times.

After seeing the reviews and photos on Groupon thought we were in for an amazing dinner. Don’t get me wrong , it was lovely. But not worthy any more than the $! Spent on Groupon.

Had breakfast at Montania this morning with my daughter and I had the best and most perfect poached eggs I've had in ages.
The service was also awesome and Michael made sure we were well looked after. Coffee was also smooth and delicious.

What a fantastic place to grab a meal. Whether it’s breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
We just had breakfast and it was really good.
The food was enjoyed by all. Fresh, tasty, and the portions were spot on, in my opinion. Not too much, and not too little that your left still wanting more.
The coffee is also very nice.
The service is excellent. All the staff seem very friendly and polite. What more could you ask for.
I thoroughly recommend coming here.
We’re repeat customers and will continue to be.

If you find yourself in beautiful Ferntree Gully, do yourself a favour and have a meal here. Food is amazing, choice is great ... have a few faces. Michael, the waiter tops off the experience! He remembers what you last ordered even if you haven't been for weeks. The kindest, most helpful waiter you will not find anywhere. George and the others are all just as friendly. Prices are also always reasonable.
