We have a few Mexican restaurants in Elk Grove, but this one is our favorite! The food is very authentic. If you are a vegetarian, the Cream of Cilantro Soup and spinach enchiladas are great choices, but if that is what you are wanting to try, call ahead, as they are not always on the menu. On Friday and Saturday,... More

I first experienced eating a chimichanga at this restaurant. I was age 10 and my aunt recommended it and I was hooked. I almost always get a chimichanga whenever visiting this restaurant and I have still not been disappointed. Nice family owned restaurant. I also recommend their food: Tapalpa rolls, quesadillas with steak in them, and Fajitas. I'm sure they... More

Good food, but definitely on the pricey side, and a lot to spend for lunch. It's nice to be able to sit outdoors in nice weather, though.

Overall, it was decent but not delicious. Hard to find great food. We did eat it all. I also thought it was pricey for the type and quality of food. In fact, this would be the main reason for not returning. Price versus quality ratio is not there. It was quite busy. As far as the best Mexican food in... More

I love this restaurant. You walk through the door and you could be right outside Guadalajara. Bright colors and decorations. Pictures of what looks like decades of customers. Well lit space with a nicely divided area. We couldn't eat outside because of the weather, but I'll try it next time - and there will be a next time! At lunch... More

I liked the old owners as they were very friendly and it was a couple. The food is still good however. Prices have gone up here as everywhere. It's less expensive than other Mexican restaurant in "Elk Grove.

Tapalpa is a family owned and run restaurant, and they make you feel like family when you are there. I especially like the things that are unique to this restaurant - my favorite is the Pollo Relleno. They have all the classics as well. Great margaritas, and a street taco special you can't beat. The service is swift and friendly.... More

We went with my daughter who wanted tacos. I ordered her a ground beef taco. Only Cheese and Meat. (This really isn't that odd for a kid). Of course, it came out with lettuce. The waitress gladly took it back to replace it. Only it wasn't a replacement. The lettuce was simply wiped off. My daughter took a bite and... More

You know you are at a real Mexican restaurant when they put chips and salsa on the table. The chips were fresh, and the salsa very tasty. We had the fajitas for dinner (steak & chicken) and both were very good. The service was flawless, all in all a great experience.

There is no doubt about it....it is the best in Elk Grove. Great fresh entrees! Always consistent. My favorite is the Carne Asada and the Camarones de Mojo i Ajo. Always friendly service!
