Looking for a place to feed a crowd for graduation, this was the place. One of our favorite places in Chicago, near my son's apartment, we had been here before. Small, hole in the wall, unpretentious exterior as well as in. Don't ignore because of this! Been in the neighborhood for 40 some years, hasn't changed. Staff prefers to serve... More

Perogi, cabbage rolls, cheese blintz, and all I wanted was cabbage soup. Went in on a cold day for some cabbage soup. Took a friend that had never had polish food. The guy behind the counter essentially said, "I know what to bring you" when we were trying to decide. He brought the soup to start. DELICIOUS! Then, an assortment... More

I have no idea what polish culture is like, and that drove me to the polish museum of America. However it closed today, so I thought, why not try some polish food? It turned out that I really liked it!!! May my 2017 full of sweet surprises like this!! BTW, please be sure to bring cash..........

I had read the reviews so I knew what we were walking into. My sister and I had decided to be firm and only order what we wanted. But, we ended up getting quickly persuaded to get the sampler meal that many others on here have had. I am half Polish and have traveled to Poland twice so I'm fairly... More

Our party of 6 wanted to go some place none of us have been to and my son found this place by googling good restaurants that are over looked. First the restaurant....nothing to look at from the outside and once inside, not much to look at again. But don't let that keep you walking. I guess I don't need fancy,... More

Podhalanka came highly recommended, but I think it was because the restaurant was close to the where we were when recommended. The area of the restaurant is seedy and I wouldn't have wanted to be there at night. The restaurant is tired, food was OK and the lady running was very nice and accommodating. They do not serve alcohol.

The elderly lady who runs this little run down restaurant is hardworking, but the place has clearly seen better days. There is a long counter and some tables with plastic table cloths with an overlay of greasy plastic placemats with easter bouquets on them. The menu runs towards "stoge" and is quite limited. Yes it is Polish cuisine, so I... More

The food is good, but expect to be forced to order more than you probably want. On the plus side, you'll have leftovers for a second full meal (if you have fairly quick access to a fridge). Watch out for the bread basket; I saw the owner put our uneaten slices back into the bag. Who knows how many diners... More

Don't expect white linens and fine china here - definitely a retro-diner environment, plastic tablecloths, unmatched silverware, weird display of Polish souvenirs and icons, TV with Polish music videos playing behind the counter. My girlfriend and I went along and allowed Greg, our waiter, to order for us and weren't disappointed. The soup was full of kielbasa slices and had... More

The girlfriends and I went to Polish Museum where Fred enthusiastically recommended Podhalanka. Since we were raised in Polish or Ukrainian households, our taste buds were ready for a blast from the past. What you've read in other reviews is true - the owner will shanghai you and start bringing out all sorts of goodies. Let him - it's all... More
