Compared to other high end steak houses this original is a bit worn and dark but the food is the best. NY strip was outstanding flavor and staff pleasantly took steak back for another couple minutes of heat when I said it was underdone. Service was great to say the least. Eyes wide open on the prices as you know... More

Extensive wine and cocktail menu. Dinner menu has enough selections for different tastes. Started with the French onion soup followed by the mixed grill with filet mignon, shrimp and bacon wrapped scallops. Delicious. We had a large table and everyone loved their meal. I loved the atmosphere. It was busy but we could have a pleasant dinner conversation using a... More

We went to Morton's to celebrate our son's 18th Birthday. The staff really know how to make a special occassion SPECIAL! The food was amazing, the service was exceptional, the atmosphere was wonderful, the celebration was memorable. What we were most amazed about was how many people in the restaurant were there not celebrating a special occassion and they still... More

If you ever wanted to experience an old-timey speakeasy visit Morton's the original. The entrance is at street level but lo and behold you have to go down stairs that actually find the place. If your eyesight is impaired your nose lead you, just follow the aroma Prime Beef being seared to perfection. as you open the door to actually... More

Very expensive but worth every penny. The service and food is on another level. I always have the porterhouse which is a big lump of beef. Worth pointing out that a lot of the entree's are $60 or higher this does not include veggies etc which are extra and can push the bill up considerably. I have been to many... More

Chicago has more outstanding steakhouses than there are cows in Texas. So it's easy to forget that the original steakhouse is Morton's, established in 1978 and located at 1050 North State Street, in the basement of Newberry Plaza, near the restaurant-crazy confluence of State and Rush. It is the flagship of an upscale chain for aged prime beef and seafood... More

Was here for a work party and had never been to this Morton's. The food was amazing, I had the Filet and it was so tender. For drinks I had a few too many of the pineapple infused vodka, it is sooooo good.

What a perfect place to go on your 1st Wedding Anniversary! My wife and I both enjoyed the T-Bone Steak! The service was exquisite. We arrived a little early and were seated right away which is when our waiter took our picture and wrote in a small picture book Happy Anniversary!!! Again the service was incredible with consistently filled drinks... More

You cannot beat the service and attentiveness of the staff. The food is consistently good. The filet and tomatoes and blue cheese were perfect. The spinach and mushrooms side also was very good. It is usually busy but manages not to be too loud. Jackets still appear which is nice.

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
