About
Girl & the Goat has been serving fun foods, craft beers, and making wine in a rustic and kick-butt environment since summer 2010. The restaurant opens at 4:30 every day, and stays open until 11pm on weeknights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (until those last late night eaters scrape their fork across the plate for the last time, or finish licking their plates until they're shiny and clean). The Goat's menu is divided into three categories: Vegetable, Fish, and of course Meat--while vegetable, fish, or meat are respectively the main stars of their categories, there are crossovers in each area so you'll get a little bit of everything. Bread is baked daily, and there are always new creations on the menu. Girl & the Goat sits in the West Loop smack dab in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor, but the location is still gritty enough to appeal to the chef’s integrity. The Goat has a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help.Girl & the Goat blended their own wine, and it's tasty. There are beers on tap from Three Floyd’s and a couple others. If you're lucky, you might come across the elusive collaboration beers that Stephanie personally crafted with a couple of beer buddy cohorts. In addition to tap beers, there's also a bunch of bottles to choose from. Girl & the Goat is open 7 days a week, because The Goat is a tireless beast, and besides, who needs rest anyway? Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Disclaimer: we went to Girl & the Goat immediately after a flight of cocktails at the Aviary so we were ravenous and a little tipsy. We were also very early for our reservation but were able to quickly score seats at the bar. I loved the ambiance and the house made sweet potato bread which we devoured. I followed with one of the two best cauliflower dishes I have ever had. The beet salad, another favorite, was unique and delicious. The grilled oysters were wonderful as well. Our server was very patient and incredibly easygoing as I selected a glass of wine.

Very well prepared small plates with complex ingredients around a simple base theme, eg, goat. Welcoming to one of my guests who had a dairy allergy. Thoughtfully constructed wine list. Four stars because the size of the tables did not really allow for adequate social
distancing and because our waiter’s initial greeting included an admonition to vacate the table by 6:30. We spent $400 and left a hundred dollar tip. Would have been double that if we had not felt rushed and sized up on the front end. It was a special occasion - father from out of town visiting his daughter and her friends - and not feeling rushed would have generated the sale of a second bottle of wine.

Of course the restaurant is great. Long wait to get a reservation but worth it. Waitstaff excellent—gave good wine guidance. Service was impeccable. We had sweet potato bread, sautéed green beans, lamb skewers and whole wood-fired branzino. All were fabulous. Dining partner enjoyed the beers, particularly a house draft in partnership with 18th St Brewery in Indiana. I had a Sangiovese (Castillo Trevino) which I enjoyed. We dined early ( 6 on Tuesday night) but restaurant was already crowded. Prices are so reasonable given food quality, it is clear why G&G is so popular.

It is not a traditional dining experience (i.e., appetizer, entree). Girl & the Goat is tapas style (small plates meant for sharing).
Our server recommended 2-3 plates per person. We wanted to start with 3 to share between the 2 of us, giving us a greater chance to not waste some really costly food. In a patronizing tone she said 'Let me get your drinks to give you time to talk about it and decide before I put in your order.' She shamed us into ordering an additional plate.
We decided on the duck tartar, roasted pig face, tempura white fish and the empanadas. The pig face was quite rich and a side of greens would probably have been beneficial; however, I'm not sure patrons have any control over the order in which plates are delivered to tables.
Our server basically ignored us for the duration of our meal. Bussers hovered around our table to remove plates. And it turned out we were unable to consume everything we ordered, leaving at least half of the pig face
4 small plates + 2 drinks + tax cost about $120. The food was really good, but I don't feel like the experience was worth the cost. We would not recommend this as a 'must go' destination and certainly wouldn't choose to return, even for the special occasion splurge.

I was very much looking forward to finally going to Girl & The Goat. We have been a big fan of Little Goat for weekend breakfast/lunch and we were very excited for a nice evening.
They knew it as a signature birthday (ending in a 0) with the reservation but it was only the two of us so we were seat along the rail near the bar. The lively crowd at the bar moved past us the entire night, making it even harder to talk over the music and general noise level. We like lively restaurants, but they took it too far. It's hard to have a romantic dinner for two when you are yelling at each other.
The service was mixed. We waited a long time for drinks and the appetizers but then the meal came almost immediately. It took a lot of creativity to simply find a place for the plates since we hadn't finished the apps yet.
All of that could be excused if the food had been as amazing as expected. Instead, it as simple "meh". Nothing about the appetizers, main dishes, or desserts were particularly memorable for either of us.

We made reservations three months in advance and scored one of the last reservations for a Saturday night when we'd be in the city. I've waited literal years for timing to work, and man oh man does it live up to the hype.
Our reservation was at 4:30p, right when the restaurant opened, which I recommend because service was quick.
The absolute must have highlights are the shisito peppers and green beans. OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. So, so delicious. Also note worthy are the oysters. Paired with the apple, it was so good. We also ordered the cauliflower, broccoli and scallops, which were all delicious, but not nearly as good as the above.
Our server was super kind and very knowledgable. She asked us before dining if we had any allergies, and while we don't, I still appreciate that a restaurant is aware to ask.
We weren't sure what to wear, but went with jeans and a sweater. Worth noting the staff is in jeans and tshirts, so it's not a heels and pearls type place. Something I think is important to know before going.
If you can get in, do it. One of the best places I've ever eaten.

Girl and the Goat a Restaurant was so good. This place was meant for sharing but I don’t agree the portions are very small and it’s very pricey $$$
My friend I got the challah bread, beet salad , chickpea chaat, Goat empanadas and fire roasted shrimp. I was obsessed with the Chickpea Chaat it was so different and bursting with flavours. I wanted more. I really wish the portions were bigger for the price you pay!
I would highly recommend this place.
Parking is available.

My husband and I were in Chicago a few years ago, and this restaurant was on my bucket list. Sadly, the day we went there, they were having a power outage and were not able to start serving people until well after the time that we had allotted for our meal. So when I discovered that they have some meal kits through Goldbelly, I jumped at the chance.
We got the crispy pork shanks and green beans with fish sauce and cashews meal kit. It was totally delicious, and made us think how much we would like to go back to Chicago some day. The kit came with very detailed instructions, which was good because there are so many components to it. I would never make a good chef as I don't have the knack for all the little details, but I thought it looked pretty darn good, and tasted even better.
If you can't get to Chicago for the real thing, this is for sure the next best way to try this wonderful restaurant.

We came down last Tuesday to pick up a Goat Satay Take Home Meal Kit and some extras (biscuits, cinnamon roles, honey poblano julep drink). Everything was excellent.
All the food with the Goat Satay dinner was fresh and flavorful. The video instructions from Stephanie Izard made preparing the meal simple. It was the best meal we have had since Covid Lockdown. We made the goat into meatballs (an alternative Stephanie suggested). My wife and I argued over if the green beans or chimichurri salad was better. They both were fantastic.
The extra cheddar biscuits we ordered were delicious and buttery. They come in a package of 4. I suggest only one per person. Each one is plenty big.

Incredible dining experience in a great area of Chicago! This was our first time to Chicago and couldn’t have had better service. I was told it’s tough to get a reservation but after contacting the restaurant, they were able to work with our flexible schedule which meant a LOT to us.
We sat out in their patio which was perfect for the sunset and weather that day. We ordered 5 different courses to share and all were delicious in their own way.
Pricing for this type of experience was quite reasonable coming in under $200 for food, drinks and tip!
We will absolutely return the next time we’re in Chicago!!

One of the finer restaurants in the city but over the last couple years but appeared to have suffered a bit more than some restaurants getting wait staff up to speed and fully staffed.
My first post COVID visit, and the menu continues to impress and the servings delightful. Many dishes can be considered a single entree even though the restaurant is known for shared entrees. Wine list for wine by the glass is very good even though a bit limited.
Pricing reflects current state of inflation and pretty easy to have a couple spending north of $100 per person for a meal.
I can highly recommend the cheese plate as a post-entree treat and the still rose wine is a nice match.

Would rate this a 4.5/5. This is Stephanie Izard’s (from top chef) iconic restaurant. Food is definitely unique, creative & mostly tasty. This place is definitely for the more adventurous foodie minded diner.
The dishes are intended for sharing, but note they are very small, so if you’re looking for a substantial meal with an entree you will ben disappointed.
Personally, I love this type of flavorful, little plates - we ordered everything from the goat empanadas to chickpeas to kalbi to chix thighs to pork cheeks & halibut. Again, note these are very small portions - the chix thigh dish prolly had what would be equivalent to one thigh but it’s served in a bowl mixed with wonderful array of different sliced veggies & spices,
There’s beer & wine the cocktails I found were mostly ice & too sweet for my taste .
The restaurant itself is pretty large, open & has some great decor. Tables are large so you’re not squeezed in like sardines. The servers are all very attentive, engaging & knowledgeable about the dishes so do ask them about certain dishes .

Going to keep this short & sweet. You wanna eat here in Chicago!! The food and service ware truly impeccable. You not only will have the best meal of your life but you also get treated graciously and do not feel “robbed” as the food is very decently priced! Get the pork shank no matter what else you order.. trust me! We had an intimate dinner with Stephanie Izard at the NYCWFF in 2021 where she prepared the delicious sticky crusty shank and we talked about it endlessly. To our surprise it was on her menu!!!! We were so elated as it is just as superb every time!!

The green beans were amazing and the pig face was an amusing adventure. . . But 99% fat short ribs were inedible. We were at the counter and the guy on the grill was animated and fun to watch, but our server was timid (to use the best possible adjective). After telling her we were done, no desire for dessert or another drink, she resurfaced 20 minutes later to ask us how we were doing. (The check came on her next trip). I understand the labor shortage, and I can get over one “off” dish, but this was not the experience we hoped for.

We had a great visit here! We prefer bar seats providing dinner, discussion and a show. :) It's a good thing, because we don't plan things until the last minute and this restaurant is typically booked weeks in advance. However, as luck would have it, we did show up to roll the dice and bar seats were available for us on a Friday at 5pm. We had a bottle of wine and enjoyed 3 small plates. It was delicious and perfect. We had the Tempura grouper, green beans and goat belly and paired it with a Chardonnay. It was perfect.
