We wanted to sample this well-known venue in Chicago and made reservations on a Friday night. It was about 70% full. The Jager schnitzel wasn't the best I've had. It was in small and in several pieces. It was supposed to come with "caramelized root...More

The Berghoff just isn't what it used to be, I couldn't even consider it German food. We started with the pretzel app. Came with two mustards and a beer cheese. That was the best part of the whole meal. I had Jägerschnitzel...poor excuse for sauce....More

The restaurant has certainly changed from the old place we used to visit. The atmosphere was very casual and the servers a lot younger than the old crew. We ordered our old favorites , White Fish for my wife and sauerbraten for me and a...More

I have loved Berghoff for years. It was one of my brothers favorite lunch places. On a visit this month I found that they did not have as many German dishes. The food and service were still good.

We decided to go to the Berghoff because it was close to our hotel. The food, beer, and desserts were all fantastic. We had a reservation which I made online and we got in right away. I would definitely go back! Even if you think...More

After over 2 weeks travelling the USA, Berghoff was a refreshing change of food. So good to see vegetables (that weren't slathered in sauce). My husband had the beef, with mashed potato and vegetable medley. I had the crusted pork chop with smashed potato (with...More

I love that when I walk in here I feel like I am back in Munich. The look, smell, feel is all Munich. The food is very good. The staff is always nice.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal - I had wiener schnitzel and my husband had beef liver. We shared a delicious Bavarian dessert. Service was fast and friendly. Atmosphere was relaxed and buzzy. Would highly recommend.

Restaurant was pretty empty. Decor was dated (not in an antique way). Food was ok. Was glad to Find a place in the area with a kids menu.

Not at all. We walked in wearing tourist uniform (shorts, t-shirt, and bag pack) and we didn't feel out of place at all.

I would call the berghoff to be sure but my guess is you could go & put your name on a list. When we were there, the restaurant was far from full so we were seated immediately but that was a weekday.

The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today's Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff's wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's "tradition with a twist!" Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms.
