Someone said that this place is a Chicago classic and indeed it is. The decor, the ambience, the live music, the food, the service. The value for money. What more can I say! Simply excellent!

There was a great selection of German fare. I had a chicken dish (I can't remember the name). It was absolutely delicious. There are quite a few gluten free choices that were delicious. In fact, all the dishes in our party were gluten free, only...More

Friendly service and excellent food. Mostly German cuisine. Price is quite moderate compared to NYC, including drinks. Large portions, better share. We went for lunch as well as dinner.

This place is a Chicago classic and never disappoints. Was there last week and the sauerbraten is to die for! The Weiner Schnitzel is quite good too. Be sure to get the red cabbage on the side. We all ordered slight modifications of our main...More

This is a "must go to" spot whenever I'm in Chicago. From a large dinner to just vegetables (try the roasted Brussels sprouts!), this is great German cuisine. Also, the wait staff and kitchen are good about reasonable substitutions.

Part of what I guess is really old Chicago. This means it is not unbearably noisy and there are a minimum of chattering cell phone users. Portions are enormous and pretty tasty. Friendly service. Went for both dinner and lunch...best thing was the corned beef...More

Let's get one thing out of the way first: this is not "fine dining." This is hearty, down home and reasonably priced delicious German classic cooking. We had the house salad, which was good, Weiner schnitzel, which was good, heifenweitzen on tap, very good. Would...More

We were at Berghoff's for an early dinner. It was not crowded and the service was excellent. The Weiner schnitzel was pretty good, but my husband's sole was superb! We ordered a side of potato pancakes and they were excellent. Tried the Berghoof root beer...More

I had the Berghoff on my list for this trip to Chicago. It's one of the iconic local spots, right on the beginning end of Route 66. The food is German which I really enjoy. I was there on a Friday night, early enough so...More

Not at all. We walked in wearing tourist uniform (shorts, t-shirt, and bag pack) and we didn't feel out of place at all.

I would call the berghoff to be sure but my guess is you could go & put your name on a list. When we were there, the restaurant was far from full so we were seated immediately but that was a weekday.

The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms. Contact us to start planning today!
