We always try to eat at the Berghoff when we're in Chicago, and it never disappoints. Food is always good and hearty, the atmosphere is festive, and the service is good. Be SURE to book ahead, and they use Open Table, so it is easy. You can wait for a table, but reservations make it so much better.

I started coming to The Berghoff in the early 70's when it was a bustling lunch place with gruff waiters in long white aprons and black bow ties. If you didn't get there by 11:45 am, you'd have to wait in line for a table. The food was German staples. The sauerbraten and Weiner schnitzel were great and with it... More

We had a family dinner here - start with the pretzel, everyone loved it. The entree options are all heavy, even the salad was huge. Our waitress was great, good service and she helped us select options. But, most were very heavy so not for me but others in our group liked the sausage and sides.

A delightful find if you like moderate ambiance and good food. Plenty of options for everyone and very friendly service. The bar was very good and you could actually just eat there.

Food is real German cooking. When I first started going here, many of the waiters were new immigrants, and couldn't speak English. Mt Grandmother cooked just this way. Be sure to have a good dark beer with your meal

The food is primarily German beer hall food, but there's a really good selection of other menu items as well. We had the halibut and the beef medallions. Both were prepared excellently and the service was great once the theater goers left. Our waitress was harried trying to get the theater goers finished up and we didn't see her for... More

The Berghoff is in the Central Loop and was convenient to our hotel. Our client had noted it had Liquor License #1 and a cool bar, so we decided to try it out. Very nice interior, impressive bar, good atmosphere. The food was average. Our party had the Butternut Squash Lasagna (which was well received) and the Sauerbraten (which wasn't).... More

Wonderful food, great atmosphere. We didn't know what to expect when we walked in, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed the night. We were there early so we were able to get right in. By the time we left the people were starting to fill the place. The bar area had plenty of room for a... More

We went for a quick Saturday lunch and they got us out within an hour- the service was great. Breann and the waiters were very attentive and took excellent care of us. We ordered a Reuben sandwich (split between two of us), a Berghoff burger, and stuffed mushrooms. They were all delicious-the person with the burger said it was one... More

If you like German food and are in Chicago this is the place to go. I had sauerbraten with potato pancakes, well prepared and seasoned. The restaurant has been owned and operated by the same family for over 100 years so they have perfected the art of joining good food, good service and good surroundings into a very pleasant experience

The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today's Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff's wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's "tradition with a twist!" Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms.
