I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time but most of the people in my family are picky eaters so we've always picked other locations. But this weekend the family caved and we went to the Berghoff for dinner. We made reservations...More

Real, authentic, delicious German food. The sauerbraten is absolute perfection. This place is a must everytime we visit Chicago. Their beers are unique and delicious. The service is always great. I can certainly understand people finding The Bergoff to be rated higher than I do. The rating system here has a lot to do with expectations and experience. If you experienced The Berghoff from the past, then the only things that would give it a...More

We visited The Berghoff after a long day’s drive to Chicago. We were attracted by the traditional German fare described online, but we were completely charmed by the high ceilings, wood paneled walls, and detailed murals of the Chicago Expo. The food was hearty, delicious,...More

The Berghoff is a family tradition. Our parents ate here, we have eaten here and we have introduced the next generation to the tastes of traditional German-American cuisine. The restaurant is always richly decorated for the holiday season. A large decorated tree and life-sized nutcrackers...More

I had the corned beef hash with eggs and my wife enjoyed the corned beef Ruben sandwich. Neither of us had ever tasted such tender and delicious corned beef. A real treat and change from the usual deli-meat.

It had been 35 years since I dined at The Berghoff and it was even better than I remembered. I always got the white fish dinner and I was not dissappointed when I ordered it again. The pretzel appetizer with various sauces was a huge...More

The restaurant was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious! We went at dinner and saw everything from jeans to suits, so the dress code seems to be whatever you want it to be. Make sure to check their hours ahead, but...More

Food is very good, if a bit on the pricey side, but the festive nature makes up for that. Great beer and wine selection. Good kids menu. We do love coming here each holiday season. Reservations recommended during the holiday season.

Ate there with my family including two small kids. We were promptly seated. The beef offerings are good- more than just the house beers and the food was amazing! Try the pirogies, bacon wrapped shrimp and pretzel. Our server Esther was excellent- super attentive and...More

Not at all. We walked in wearing tourist uniform (shorts, t-shirt, and bag pack) and we didn't feel out of place at all.

I would call the berghoff to be sure but my guess is you could go & put your name on a list. When we were there, the restaurant was far from full so we were seated immediately but that was a weekday.

Description
The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms. Contact us to start planning today!
