This is a legitimate fish restaurant will an excellent French origin owner/chef.
The seafood is fresh off the trawlers moored adjacent to the restaurant. By taking their bi-catch there are new and interesting fish varieties at all times.
You can see and taste that the fish hasn’t been through the Sydney and Newcastle Fish markets and isn’t days old or deep frozen.
The meat is up to the same standard.
If only this restaurant was in Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay as Lemon Tree Passage is on the way to nowhere

Today we visited Poyers for lunch to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. It was hands down one of the most exemplary dining experiences we have had in recent years.
From the sunny greeting of our beautiful waitress Joy to perusing a menu that promised fresh seafood - that looked innovative and not just ''the usual suspects'' - while gazing out over the water in the relaxed setting.
We chose the shared 4 course Eastern Rock Lobster degustation for 2.
My husband opted to start with a beer and I enjoyed a classic Margarita that was made... perfectly!
Course 1 was lobster leg meat with pickled cucumber & mayonnaise. My first mouthful transported me to somewhere in the Middle East. Nothing like intriguing the taste buds from the outset! :)
Being wine lovers we were impressed by the diversity the wine list. Also Mandy's passion for wine had us at hello! :)
We opted for a Allandale Pinot Gris.
Course 2 was Lobster tail ceviche with ginger, shallot, chilli, pomegranate dressing and garlic chips.
The presentation was so visually appealing my husband (who normally won't touch anything raw) decided to take the plunge and sample it. This is a huge acknowledgement to the power of the dining experience!
Course 3 won as our our favourite. Butter poached Lobster tail with pilaf rice, fennel, spinach & white wine sauce.
We teamed it up with a wonderful 2021 Hart & Hunter 26 Rows Chardonnay.
The desserts were absolutely lovely.
Owners Mandy & Ludwig are delightful and their passion for food and wine was present in every element of our meal.
If you are yearning for beautiful, fresh locally sourced food cooked to make your taste buds sing, visit Poyers. In a nutshell, cést Magnifique!!
Well worth a trip to the coast. Many thanks for a wonderful Anniversary lunch - we will be back.

We had never been to this gem of a restaurant before. We booked in based on the fascinating menu we discovered on the internet, and the waterfront location. If anything The Poyers exceeded our already high expectations. Every course and every wine choice was superb. Joy our waitress was a true joy and provided excellent recommendations, then served us with great attention to detail. Ludovic our chef came out to talk to us at the end of the meal and we compared notes on Australian and French cuisine. All together one of the most memorable meals we have had for years. Six stars.

It is uncommon to begin a review focused on teamwork and hospitality. I had a good lead up experience booking The Poyer's and within minutes of our arrival the teamwork and hospitality was standing out. A warm co-owner, experienced staff and a couple of experienced staff supported by younger ones making up the team on the floor. You could tell quickly they really connected with the kitchen. The whole feeling was of a sure-footed, talented and committed team.
Great explanations of the menu, spot on advice and perfect timing of the arrival of each of our dishes.
The food was uniformly exceptional, a lot inspired by locally sourced ingredients. Superbly flavoured and beautifully presented. And the setting of The Poyer's is just delightful, beautiful views looking out to the bay. Locals going about their recreational business and daily life, boating, picnicking and fishing.
I am glad restaurants like The Poyer's are not in the big city. They would run the risk of being overwhelmed by popularity, with the potential of being under-appreciated.
Memorable !

I was so impressed with the generosity of the staff in making me a delicious 3 course vegan meal. I picked different elements from different dishes for entree and dessert and the chef came up with a fabulous dish for mains. It was a wonderful experience that I can’t rate highly enough.

Overall the food was disappointing as we expected more based on the reviews.
There were four of us and we all had the same opinion even though we had different dishes. Three of us had zucchini flowers as a starter and they were very good.
The scallops were good however overpriced as only 3 scallops with the parsnip purée. The gnocchi served with the main were disappointing as they had very little taste and smothered in sauce. Too much garlic and oil was used with the snapper and overpowered the dish. Also very noisy and could not even hear our waitress when trying to explain the specials.

We loved every second of being in this beautiful restaurant xx staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the food was exquisite!! The chef is so talented and subtly experimental .. very unique and every flavour married perfectly .. we had the venison carpaccio and the hermit crab tail followed by the house made fettuccine with chilli crab and who would have thought .. Sangiovese to accompany it? x Your sommelier is worth her weight in gold!! She introduced us to flavours we would never have imagined .. what a sensational restaurant this is!! can’t wait to come back :)

Despite being a little out of the way on the western end of Port Stephen’s - this is a great restaurant with food that is simply wonderful. In particular the seafood entrees and mains were great. The duck was beautifully cooked and presented. A well chosen and priced wine list compliments the fine food. Perched on the Lemon Tree Passage Marina the views from the restaurant on a sunny day are wonderful.
The only small downside was a waitress who insisted that she have everyone’s attention while she went through the specials. Her demeanour bordered on head mistress with a touch of prison guard. Communication skills need work and to understand if patrons want to get there drink order in first and hear her spray later it’s their call… they pay the wages.

We always come back for the location and the service. The location is just the salve you need for the bumps and scrapes of everyday life and the service is the gentle relief that comes from its application. But what keeps us coming back is the ever changing menu, both food and wine, that makes each visit a new adventure in what The Poyers has to offer. The carpaccio was sublime, the mackerel and sardines pefectly complimented with their accompaniments (the mushrooms with the mackerel were amazing) and the blue cheese gnocci rich and satisfying (we always love the gnocci... it is so soft and fresh you can chew it with your tongue). It has been a difficult time, with the challenges of the past few years, but we're glad that The Poyers has endured and we will always look forward to the next time we get the privilege of enjoying their location, service, wine and food again, and again, and again.

Fresh seafood cooked brilliantly especially the snapper, gnocchi and stone fruit as a main. Good selection of wine by the glass. Staff were efficient and helpful. Positioning of restaurant was on the waterfront with a beautiful breeze accompanying the meal.

Amazing restaurant, we were staying in port Stephen’s for the weekend and when we asked for advice on the best restaurant everybody said you have to go to poyers.
Lovely relaxed venue on the water, fantastic service and incredible food. We had the lobster degustation, so fresh and amazing, how chef ludovic prepared 3 beautiful courses for two from a freshly delivered lobster.
Great choice of wines and such attentive service.
On the way out, we booked for breakfast the next day which was also superb. Can’t wait to go back again!

If you are heading to Port Stephens I cannot recommend this place enough for great food, wine and service. We had daily fish specials (orange roughy and snapper) for mains and an assortment of oysters to start. All delicious. The staff are knowledgeable about the food and wine and following a chat to the owners it’s because they make sure they know the producers of both the food and wine. Great wine list….with Peacock Hill a standout boutique vineyard from the Hunter Valley. We will definitely be back 😀

What a find. Great outlook over the water, pleasant & efficient staff, interesting menu & top class food.
It is nice to find a menu that does not rely on chips & salad, oversize steaks & sticky date pudding.
The home made gnochi & roast peach that accompanied my delicious piece of cod made for a special meal. The deserts were different & yummy.
Whilst not cheap we all agreed that it was very good value for money.
Although over an hours drive for us we will be back.

For my sisters birthday her friends came up from Sydney’s northern beaches to celebrate. I chose Poyers as my husband and I have had amazing times there before. My sisters daughter was a surprise guest and was delayed. The staff made the day so wonderful keeping the table setting one short and when she arrived they took her order and organised the meals to all arrive at the same time. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful meal and service was second to none. We finished off the lunch with cocktails on the deck outside where the staff made sure we were well looked after. Thank you the The Poyers Team one and all. We still can’t stop talking about our wonderful day.

Spectacular lunch today to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Perfect weather to sit in this lovely restaurant looking out at the boats and beautiful waterways. The food, where does one begin. The most delicious plump Oysters in a creamy parmesan and truffle sauce, divine. We chose entree sized meals to captivate all the delicious flavours. The Venison Caparccio, delicious, the Lobster Ravioli, fine and flavoursome with a perfect sauce. The local Deep Sea Hermit Crab on a chilli lime risotto..a true delight and a Crispy Duck Parcel with a medley of vegetables, amazing. We loved every mouthful and dessert equally as delicious with a Creme Brulee and Affogato. We thank Mandy and Ludwig Poyer for their input, so thoughtful with their advice and Joy who served us with a beautiful smile made our day complete. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and we thank them for making our Anniversary one we will never forget.
