Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Got taken to this lovely cafe by our friends whilst visiting the Marina. This is a really tranquil little spot with glorious view over the surrounding countryside of the national park. Place was really clean and the staff were really friendly and helpful. If you...can find something to satisfy you on the menu, there must be something wrong with you as it offers something for everyone and at reasonable prices.More

Amazing little cafe with a great and varied menu. Service was quick and staff really polite and helpful. Everything was clean and very well presented. Make sure you're hungry as the portions are proper man size. Di e in or, as we did, out on...the deck and just watch the world go by.More

I think that most of the previous reviews relate to the older owner "Wat The Fish" cafe, the new owners of Water Vista are totally different , younger, vibrants and lots of new ideas. I went today with my daughter, her partner and my granddaughter....I had the classic flathead and chips served with salad. My daughter had the corn fitter roll with salad and her partner had an egg and bacon roll. All servings were of good size, well cooked and full of flavour. No complaints at all. As they are now licensed a Corona well down very well! The inside and outside decor has been completely redone and is very modern, colourful and clean looking. We sat inside and appreciated the newly installed air conditioning on the 35 degree day. I will be returning and can recommend this cafe.More

We went to this cafe today, waited over an hour an half for fish tacos, chicken tacos and a small portion of chips. The fish tacos were v average but the chicken tacos were terrible, as were the chips. Overly priced for poor quality food.

Seriously disappointing. I’m a local and sadly we won’t be going again. $19 for the smallest piece of fish I’ve ever seen, cut into four and put in a hamburger container on top of salad. The salad was rocket and one piece of tomato, one...centimetre square. Chips came in a cup. Total waste of money.More

We visited this place yesterday for lunch (4 adults) all of us ordering fish & chips. Well, what can I say except that this place should be know as "WHERE'S THE FISH" not "WHAT THE FISH". Our friends grilled fish arrived at the table and...I have never seen such a tiny little piece of fish on a pile of chips. To call this fish & chips is an epic understatement, as it is more like an order of chips with with a hint of fish. Ours turned up next as we order the battered fish and again, very underwhelming and very over cooked. Service was very average too as we had ordered 4 drinks but only 3 were served, forcing us to go back to the counter again. This place used to be known for is generous portions and great service but it looks like the new owners see thing a little different. Save your money and go elsewhere...More

I'll start with the plus's. Venue great, coffee very good, friendly staff, very good oysters natural, great chips. That's where it ends for our group. Waited for an hour, while we watched take away orders being served out. The one fish and chips had two...pieces of fish one piece the batter was still runny inside. The mussels dish sauce must've been tinned tomatoes floating in hot water? My fish of the day barramundi was quite nice but wasn't expecting a whole fish thought would be fillets. Th John Dory was tiny, mostly bones. The salad was just plain rocket leaves, no dressing. We ordered a side salad which we knew would be rocket but also also a few shavings of parmasan and a drizzle of balsamic but the first person who picked some up couldn't help but take it all. The fifth meal looked raw forgotten what it was but when we asked she said very disappointing. Won't be back till menu changes.More

Very small portions, poor quality, average service and VERY expensive for what you get. This is the worst dinning experience I have had in 10 years. Skip this place big time.

Absolutely terrible. We were charged close to $80 for two cold serves of meagre fish and chips, 3 cans of drink and a milkshake. Such a rip off. We used to come for fish and chips here before it’s renovation and it was great. Not...anymore.More

I spent 5 weeks in Australia in May 2022, taking a well-deserved break from my stressful career in London. I can honestly say the only bad experience in my holiday was here at “what the fish”. I was appalled by the rude, small-minded meanness of...the management. Having driven from Sydney to visit Berowra Waters, my husband needed the toilet. He suffers badly with a gastro-related illness, a disability. So, we politely asked a waitress if he would could use the bathroom. She said “of course” and pointed the way. On the way to the bathroom, a foul-tempered woman confronted us, demanding to know if we were going to order something from the menu. To be honest, the thought had no yet occurred to us, but we probably would have done so afterwards, before our long drive back to Sydney. A number of customers were by now watching the spectacle she made in her pursuit to protect the toilet from non-paying guests. The poor kind waitress looked mortified as the nasty, mean-minded money-grabbing manager barred us from using the bathroom, and launched an inquisition as to which member of staff dared to be kind, presumable so she could reprimand them later. A male staff member in the kitchen was laughing, which I felt was just upsetting and made a bad situation even worse. A nearby female customer observed the confrontation and was, like us, appalled. So she got up and came after us, catching us outside the shop, to inform us that there was a public toilet nearby, which we had no idea about until someone told us. The customer also told us that she lived nearby and that it was well-known what awful service is inflicted upon customers at “what the fish” ( even the name is a play on a well-known offensive phrase ). It is a tragic shame that this place is the only catering business here at Berowra Waters. I have read other reviews and mine is not an isolated experience. Some other people have reviewed to complain about selling frozen seafood next to the water. I cannot speak as to the quality of the food but for me the service inflicted upon us was enough to know the nature of this establishment. The current owners well-deserve for their business to be rejected by visitors for its mean-minded, rude approach to serving the local community, including visitors like us, with lots of spending money. A simple smile and we might have stopped to make a purchase. Now, I would rather starve than eat here. It smelled of old cooking fat anyway, which was not appetising at all. I have no reservation is saying that “what the fish” has the worst service I have ever seen anywhere in Australia, this being my seventh visit. I will return home to the UK with an enduring memory of Berowra Waters. A useful reminder that mean-minded pettiness is a creeping affliction which can affect people in need even in the most rural places of interest. Do everyone a favour and avoid customising this dreadful little business.More
