Came here with friends for a leaving party, we were classed as a large party so had to pre order our food before we arrived. We were very well looked after from the moment we arrived. The staff were very friendly and the food was...More

We went here as we heard good reviews about it. Was a little disappointed, so went back recently and the changes were much better. Good food and service

As a party of four we visited the Durham Ox on a Friday night. The pub is old but a program of refurbishment is clearly underway. The stripped brickwork, heritage coloured paintwork and the beautiful wallpaper set the scene for a relaxed evening. We were...More

My partner has been wanting to try this restaurant for a while but I wasn't so keen. We visited on a Sunday, so my partner had a roast. I only eat chicken so my options across the whole menu were limited. I had the chicken...More

Lovely home cooked food and friendly service. Not cheap, but good food is worth paying for! The inside is cosy with a real fire in the winter, and has a nice beer garden for sitting outside in the summertime.

We visited at Christmas and had the Christmas menu. The starter of mushroom tart was truly amazing and the pudding of Eton mess also lovely but the nut roast I had as a main was bland and came with vegetarian gravy which resembled vegetable stock...More

Busy, friendly restaurant. Good choice of food for all courses (but not too many). Well presented, beautifully cooked. Only negative was £1.50 for a pint of soda water. We would go again without hesitation.

Description
The Durham Ox is the oldest inn in Ilkeston dating from 1780 with later Victorian editions. The property is steeped in history having once been used as the town gaol with secret passages taking the prisoners from the cells in the cellars up to the Church in the market place where they were tried for their crimes.A major scheme of renovation and restoration this year has returned the pub back to its origins and created a quiet relaxing haven in which to unwind and enjoy a drink or a home cooked meal....or both
