I ordered a birthday cake for my wife over the phone. I arranged to have it picked up a few hours later. When I arrived I was greeted by a warm friendly staff. The bakery itself was busy with customers sitting at tables and enjoying their drinks and food. The cake was delicious (vanilla and fruit). They even gave me... More

This bakery is geared towards white people. Any Hispanic person would probably be appalled. The breads and cakes all show up to the shop frozen, meats come in frozen bags, nothing is made in house. It's like a Starbucks for Latinos. Employees are all kind though and their prices are reasonable for per-fabricated food. Look for a REAL panaderia.

We were new to LA and new to Mexican cooking at home, and having invited friends over for a dinner party, we realized we had no idea what makes for a good Mexican dessert. A bit of Google pointed us to La Monarca, and it was a revelation. First, the flan is the best we've had anywhere -- taste, texture,... More

We were looking for a place for breakfast and we went to La Moncarca. What a great find! mexican place with delicius treats... We loved the jalapeño croissant and the chocolate crossants. Everything looks and tastes yummy! We would love to go back!

The bakery is quite quaint and has some seating for you to sit down and enjoy a lovely drink. You must get a slice of their cakes along with a cappuccino or tea! Also it is all homemade and it definitely shows through their wonderful pastries!

I have nothing but great things to say. This is a small Mexican Bakery that doesn't attract a crowd by any stretch. I get the feeling it's a place known only to locals, which is why I hope this review will change that! We stumbled across this bakery in our search for breakfast the first morning we were in Hollywood.... More

Had heard about this place and had the opportunity to visit. Stephanie was an angel and we enjoyed all of the items. Will return. They donate to a Mexican sanctuary for Monarch butterflies.

I've noticed La Monarca before but never really bothered to walk in. I almost didn't this time as I was trying to find the Starbucks that Google said was nearby (I never made it to Starbucks, I think it's in the Vons across the street). I was in front of La Monarca and hesitated to go in because it was... More

This place is really lovely. They have a large selection of delicious pastries that they make in-house. Their coffee was really good, but definitely made me feel a little cracked out. Too strong for me. There isn't too much seating, but there's some.

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
