I am not sure what this place thinks it is but i can tell you that the food is very average, the service is zero. We waited for 40 minutes and still the area we waited to eat at was not cleared. There is a lot of rubbish /food scraps from other diners on the floor and basically the staff... More

Mostly outdoor tables, laid back in atmosphere, food & service. Okay place to sit on the deck, not very professional in any respect. So don't expect too much.

It's hard to find a place in the City of Santa Cruz that still makes fresh sandwiches, much less one that has parking and excellent IPAs on draft. To top it off, it has a quiet outdoor wooden deck with lots of tables in a peaceful garden setting.

My wife and I are an elderly Asian American couple who arrived at the River Cafe just before noon on April 10, 2015. We informed the cashier upon entering that we had a Groupon coupon which we wanted to use, and she became immediately angry. We placed an order and then engaged in a brief discussion of the amount owed... More

Be warned - the sandwiches here are huge. We happened on to it because it was next to a yarn store we were visiting. Food is organic I believe. Prices seem high until you see the portion size. If we had known the sandwiches were going to be that large we would have split one. I had a ham and... More

if anyone invites you to River Cafe. A good idea, gone so wrong. Looking to be a homey, low-key, somewhat organic cafe, it is a cheesy, dirty, poorly run grungy spoon. Line and waits are long because staff is poorly trained. Sign at counter says " Get your utensils and napkins before you are seated", meaning after you place your... More

Tiny little place with indoor and outdoor seating. There is only one person in the back getting the food ready, so if someone asks for a latte, the line stalls. Today was my first visit. We had the pumpkin dal and a piece of frittata. Both were fabulous. The soup in particular is one of the best I've had. The... More

So, I had a groupon for this place that I got based on the menu posted online. Sorry to say that the online menu NEVER reflects reality for this place. I went by six times, and the menu never offered something that I would have ordered that was on the online menu (http://rivercafesantacruz.com/menu/). Why would they even post an online... More

This is a tiny establishment, where all the cooking is done right in front of you on a grill or small stove. Everything is handcrafted and most of the dishes delicious. My absolute favorite is the Corallitos Chicken sausage burrito/ served with a home made salsa that is delicious. The tortilla is handmade (though not in the shop) and the... More
