All the warmth of a small family restaurant combined with refined Mexican cooking from a chef constantly experimenting with new tastes. He is known for his 'double soups': one part fruit based and the other vegetable, roasted peaches being the base of one half of that evenings offering on which was floated a quail egg. Small but varied selection of... More

I have gone several times. I would go today, but they are closed for a couple days. Can't wait til they get back. This is one of the best restaurants around.

we were recently invited to a what for us was a new place, Babita and it was Great! if i had to put a label on the cuisine i would say worldly, sophisticated Oaxacan. its in a undistinguished neighbor in San Gabriel in what is not part of a large Chinese community but has been around for over 20 years.... A fine treat if you're in to Mexican food, yet want something a little more refined. Thoroughly enjoyed the owners take and adventurous take on traditional Mexican dishes; all delightfully presented and a joy to eat; good beverage selection too.

Small, quaint, family owned restaurant...very up-scale menu. Only the freshest ingredients. A true delight! The daughter, whom the restaurant is named after, greeted us at the door and took care of us. The mother is responsible for the delicious fresh tortillas each day. And the father, who is the chef‑owner Roberto Berrelleza, is a wizard in the kitchen. He came... More

Don't expect traditional mexican but a great mexican cooking with inventive, capacity and an hearty eye to Mexico. Cozy and family ambience. Her, him and their daughter. Guava soup, pork dressed with cactus leaves, outstanding dessert. It pays a drive to San Gabriel. Enjoy.

After my fourth visit over a period of years, I continue to think this is the best Mexican cuisine outside of Mexico (and possibly IN Mexico). Chef Roberto produces inventive, delicious delicacies to delight diners at this small, unpretentious place in an unlikely locale. He proudly uses the best ingredients; he will describe them to you (how often do you... More

The only restaurant that compares is Casa Oaxaca....in Oaxaca Mexico; so if you can't make the trip....head down to San Gabriel (of all places). Chef Roberto only uses the very best ingredients in whatever dishes he prepares, the finest sea foods and meats...his soups are beyond compare. He will come out of the kitchen to explain what is on the... More

Fine food, tasty surprising combinations, beautiful presentation in a very small family-run restaurant in an offbeat location. Mexican food does not get better—anywhere (I live in New Mexico and travel to Mexico). Not cheap, but a fair price for the quality. Wine and beer only.

Authentic, delicious, sophisticated Mexican food prepared with complete attention—the chef is a master and artist. Little touches add to the presentation. Chiles en nogada, best I've ever had. Lovely, cheerful family atmosphere. Not cheap, but more than fair. As close to perfect as one can get. Delightful.
