Met my friend for lunch today at Bartels Giant Burger. They have been in the area since 1975. This is a small dining room. Three or four tables seat 4 each. Also a small counter area for 4 or 5 diners. On a nice day you can sit outside. I had a Giant Burger with American cheese meal (fries and... More

Stopped for lunch on Sunday headed from San Francisco to Medford. Nope, definitely not a posh, over-priced burger place, but at the same time it wasn't "the best". Average hamburger (not huge, not mouthwatering - just average) on a plain bun. Room at the counter for about 6, a few booths and some outdoor seating. Good fries - we like the... More

Legit, awesome burger joint. It's not some posh, upper-crust restaurant. Who cares? You gonna eat the table? The burgers are huge, juicy and tasty. Toppings are fresh and generously portioned. The addition of bacon and Ortega pepper was perfection. The fries were bangin...Hot, crispy and salty. Fry sauce is a must. People working their genuinely care and take pride in... More

Came here with my son to eat. It's more a shack than a restaurant, close to the highway. kind of strange location. Bullet holes in the window glass. Had to wait (too) long for the burger to come, ca 15 minutes. Burger, their specialty, was just average, not bad, but certainly not better than elsewhere. I will not return. Pretty... More

I was born and raised here in Shasta County. There are other places to get a good old fashioned style burger ... but if you want the BEST old fashioned burger - go to Bartel's! Period. They are made fresh, to order, the way you want them and they are not skimpy little burgers. The fries are great and so... More

The biggest, juiciest burgers. Small little place, but great location off of 299 just before lake blvd and corner of hilltop.

A local person of 63 years took me to Bartel's - I will never be able to repay him for that kind gesture! Everyone who worked there knew this gentleman and he was wise enough to get there a little before lunch rush hour in order to get one of the very few places to sit. We had a great... More

My first impression of a burger joint should always be that it is better than your typical fast food burger. This one certainly is! Although it's not the best burger I've ever had it is really good. They cook the burger when you order it along with the fries. One review mentioned burgers being cooked to order but was not... More

This burger was BIG, but I ate every bite. It was homemade tasting, only better and I loved the small diner feel.

It's one of those place too many people drive by, but make no mistake it's good eating and friendly folks. Burgers are the order of business, and they are fresh cooked along with your fries as you order. Don't expect table clothes and fancy table ware, but overall good.
