The food here is excellent...the best Italian outside of Italy. The service was really good and the prices were very reasonable. We sat in a very pleasant outdoor patio. I had the Ravioli Zucca which was delicious. I really cant think of a thing to...complain about.More

I loved this place. I came in on a Monday evening without reservation, and was seated immediately. The food was delicious, the service was lightening quick, with plenty of servers milling about, and the prices are very reasonable. The handmade pasta that i had was...phenomenal and with the salad, cannoli dessert and decaf espresso for a topper, my meal was exactly what I wanted for an italian meal. I highly recommend this place when in downtown LA.More

They have lots of open outdoor tables in a setting that is very attractive and pleasant. The food was quite good and the price surprisingly reasonable (particularly for downtown LA). My only cavil was that the gnocchi was a tiny bit too salty. The service...was prompt and cordial.More

Although there were 20 free tables in the back garden they wanted to force us to a really bad table across from the entrance. When we discussed this outrage another couple accepted that table and then we got one of the 20 free ones. Their...comment: “We have a sequence we must follow” - meaning: What the customer wants is not our concern. The waiter was simply not qualified - a nightmare in knowledge and service. And - I am not amazed - after I left only 8% tip, they illegally charged my credit card 20% tip the next day.More

Recently found ourselves in downtown LA with only an hour for a meal. Faced with a dizzying list of new restaurants in the area and a food court full of variety across the street at Grand Central Market, we opted to pull a favorite from...our back pocket and it certainly hit the spot. Walking in, we already knew what to order: Calamari In Zimino ($15): grilled calamari steak sautéed in EVOO and roasted garlic. This is the best appetizer on the block Bianchi & Neri ($18): black & white pasta with shrimps, mushrooms and pancetta in creamy sauce. Perfectly al dente in delicious creamy sauce that I can’t get enough of *chef’s kiss* Lasagna ($16): layer upon layer of beef, cheese and pleasure So great to be back at Maccheroni Republic. It is a reliable oldie but goodie. It’s comfortable and dependable. It’s like an old shirt in your closet that you pick when it’s hard to decide what to wear. We will keep returning to this family-owned restaurant and will order the same 3 things on the menu because it’s what works for us. There’s metered street parking and public lots. They automatically add 18% service charge so keep this in mind when leaving additional gratuity. For dessert, best to cross to the Grand Central Market for a scoop of pistachio amaretto at McConnell’s Ice Cream. While you’re in the area, why not go for a ride at Angel’s Flight?! Bon appetit! So many wonderful menu options, great cocktails, wonderful desserts (flour-less chocolate cake) and terrific service by a wonderful team of people. Can't wait to come back and work my way through the menu. And the patio is a great place to dine in decent weather.

Handmade pastas and other tasty Italian dishes are available in this restaurant right across the Grand Central Market. They’re Michelin Bib Gourmand as well! It’s a solid spot for a date night but they can accommodate bigger groups as well. They’re currently offering outdoor dining...during covid and won’t seat you until your entire party is there. Came here most recently with a group of five and were seated right away on a Saturday around 1:30pm. Otherwise, you should probably expect a little bit of a wait. You can park at the grand central market garage ($3 for up to 90 min, no validation needed). They serve you bread (and offer chili oil with your balsamic vinegar and olive oil, which actually packs some heat). I got the agnolotti which comes with a vibrant salsa verde sauce and is filled with tender meat. The pasta was perfectly chewy and I cleaned up my plate. My sister’s favorite is the black and white pasta with the seafood. They do have appetizers available - the mozzarella sticks we had were pretty standard. If you save room, they do have desserts or you can walk across the street to GCM as another option. Overall, you can’t go wrong with any of the pastas here.More

I have to tell you that 3 times during our meal I jumped online to confirm we were at the correct restaurant - this was just not the meal I expected and I'm currently trying to be super forgiving due to Covid. No bar so...we ordered a bottle of white wine for the table. It was served hot - not slightly chilled like you might expect from a table wine in Italy, but hot. It was also served in short glass tumblers which was odd but whatever. We got an ice bucket and plugged along. Asked for suggestions on appetizers - ordered two. The meatballs were average (definitely nothing spectacular or particularly tasty). The bruschetta was also okay. Three of us so we each tried something different. My husband felt his meal (the slightly spicy seafood linguini) was the best of the three. The other two (their version of bolognese and the rigatoni topped with burrata) were very average and candidly I couldn't taste much of a difference despite one being a meat based dish. We all asked for pepper and in hindsight I should have also asked for salt as the food simply had no real flavor. Perhaps there was someone new in the kitchen? Perhaps they forgot seasonings? I just can't reconcile my experience with the 4-5 star reviews. We drove 40+ minutes to have this meal and I was slightly embarrassed at having recommended it. The tiramisu was fantastic but not worth the trip or the bland pasta dishes. Probably won't try this one again . . .More

Looking back, this was our last meal out before our lives turned upside down! We were visiting our daughter from UK and took a trip to downtown. Started at Grand Central market (across the road) but this just felt too busy with the underlying coronavirus...issues. We crossed the road and spotted Maccheroni Republic. It looked like an oasis! And indeed it was! We had the best lunch, great service and food. It would be good to think that one day, when life becomes normal again, we can return.More
