Carlitos Gardel is on Melrose which is a busy street, so make time for the drive so you can get there at your reservation time, and make reservations. The food is very expensive as is the wine, so maybe save for a special occasion. We...found the prices to be worth it for the food and way too high for the wine. The place itself is very cute. It is not super fancy, it is just very pretty. You may wait a minute or 5 to be seated, with reservations, but you will be happy you waited. Once seated we found the service to be super good. The sommelier was just a little too special acting for me, but he did offer a great selection, but the pricing was too high. But the wine was great. We love their empanadas, and you can get those as an appetizer. Next time I will be eating nothing but them and a lot of them. They are that good. The filet we ordered was cooked rare, exactly as we wanted and it came with fresh and super tasty asparagus. We also had mashed potatoes which were amazing. Their New York Steak was splendid. You will love it. Everything there is great. I don't think they allow a bad item out of the kitchen. The service was very nice and over all we had a great time. Have fun.More

I really wanted to love this place. The service was okay. The sommelier was snooty, the waiter was abrupt and the prices were very high given the quality of the food. There were six of us there and we ordered two bottles of wine and...had expected the bill to be around $600, but when it came it was $780 and was handled the VERY old fashioned way with menu items scribbbled down in shorthand on the back of tickets with prices - making it really difficult to reconcile what was ordered with the bill. We all could not get around the overwhelming sense that we were being a bit bamboozled. I want to be clear that we did not ask for further clarification from the wait staff on all the charges - mainly because we had to be somewhere and our server was so distracted and flustered we just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Overall, the food was good, but we left with a bad taste in our mouths.More

This is a really unassuming little place nestled between a photography place and a lingerie shop, and truly a treasure! We made reservations for their patio and could not walk through the front to get to it, it's an entirely separate entrance in the back...alleyway. It certainly looks much bigger in pictures than it really is! I came for my birthday with my husband and our six-year-old daughter and we really loved everything, though the service took some warming up to and could be improved. Just not very friendly. We had an empanada appetizer, steak for two, a side of spinach and a vegi corn medley, plus a bottle of Terrazas de los Andes (a cab), with a bill total of around $340. But it was worth it - food is cooked to perfection here and I highly recommend it.More

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by how much I loved the empanada. What did surprise me was how much I liked the pastas. I had a pre-fixed meal with a mix of pastas, mushrooms, and yes, meat. Lot's of meat. The New York...Steak with the highlight of the meat items for me. We brought our own wine, but if I were to go back, I'd definitely take advantage of their array of imported Argentine wines. The wine room was pretty cool too. I'm sorry to say I had never tried this gem before last week. I need to go back. Soon. This place kind of spoiled me for other restaurants because the service was so good. What a pleasure.More

Just had a prix fix Valentine’s Day dinner. It was wonderful. A little pricey but we knew that going in. Lovely candlit atmosphere. Valet parking curbside. Friendly wait staff and not too noisy.

I was looking forward to a good steak restaurant on my arrival to LA. Made some research and decided to try out this restaurant. Alas, it was very disappointing in terms of the service it was a real hurried meal ... the restaurant was not...even full that they need to turn around the restaurant to accommodate 2nd seating. Irregardless, that should also not be a reason. We had not even finished our starters and they were so eager to set our cutlery for our main. Clearing dishes even before we finished as well. We were placed near the window which is the most uncomfortable seat ever. Anyone bigger will not be able to sit. See picture. One probably had only like 20cm to sit, you do need the cushion as the back we’re metal railing. The restaurant should sit themselves to understand the discomfort they are putting their guests. Overall, food quality is mediocre. We gave our feedback on our experience, with the hope that they can live up to some of the better reviews.More

Very cosy restaurant, excellent waiters with plenty of attention. Live music but not too loud and not inteuding. Valet parking. And great food. Had an excellent burrata as an appetizer and a very tasty ribeye as a main course. Not cheap though. But a real...recommendation!More

A friend recommended this restaurant to us, so we thought we would give it a try. Am I ever glad we did. The food was outstanding. Their Skirt Steak is their signature dish and I know why. It was flavorful, tender and huge! Definitely a...share plate. The gnocchi was delicious and again, definitely a share plate for most people. They have a great wine list with some excellent Argentine wines. My advice - adventure out of the no and try some of the Argentine wines. If you are unsure of what to order, ask Gerard and he will assist you. The restaurant is intimate but very lively and has a great atmosphere. I was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed it and I will most certainly go back the next time I am in town!More

We visited carlitos as part of our hour roadtrip: after having spent more than 2 months in buenos aires, we have mainly been disappointed by the the quality of the meat... more than one third of the bife de chorizo was pure fat... incosistently with...what we we exprienced before... for a priece well above international standards... can't recommend, sry!More

Since my partner is from Argentina and we go there once a year, we had very high expectations for this posh restaurant hoping to taste the flavors of his homeland, but were disappointed. We didn't find a lot of traditional dishes on the menu, while...we found dishes that are definitely not from Argentina, like New Zealand lamb and gambas al ajillo, he said the provoleta wasn't spiced and didn't taste as usual and we were expecting a better quality for the meat too (we had lomo and molleja). Wine and dessert were also meh. The service was good and fast, we had a particularly good experience with our sommelier who was nice and knowledgeable, while we were somewhat weirded out by our server's bombastic attitude. Nice atmosphere, with music but not too loud and cozy lighting.More
