This is such a family friendly place. The service is always so warm and welcoming. You feel like you're at home. I had a turkey sandwich which was DELICIOUS. We never leave without desserts. The selection is huge and so sweet. We will always come back to eat here.

As a San Diego native, who retired to Oregon 16 years ago, I spent a lot of growing up and adult years dining at DZ's. Hubby and I are in San Diego on a road trip and DZ's was a must have at least once or twice, during our time here in my hometown. Still wonderful comfort food, huge menu... More

Our food was average at best. Still trying to figure out why the fried matzoh looked like and tasted like a plate of eggs, with virtually no matzah. Same for the latkes, why so little actual potato. Hard to justify the high prices for that quality. Sorry DZ.

I was traveling for business & stumbled upon this deli. I was very excited to try this deli based on the reviews and it's been a while since I last had good Jewish style deli food. I went for lunch on a Sunday & this place was packed! I was seated pretty quickly & ordered a combination corned beef/pastrami sandwich... More

Most people in San Diego knows about DZ Akins, if you go or went to SDSU (I like did) you know about DZ Akins, the portion are HUGE and very easy to make 2 meals, perfect for a student on a budget. Today I go back because the food is incredible, service is quick and the portions are still HUGE.... More

I had the mushroom chicken with Kashi. This was a waiter recommendation that was spot on. The chicken was juicy and cut with my fork. My friends small chicken salad was more than most and his wife's breakfast was just as ordered.

Great food! We are always with a large family group. There is something for everyone on the menu. Substitutions and sharing ok. You won't believe how varied the menu is. It can be busy on special occasions with a small wait, ~15 min.

Really fantastic service. Menu is most likely the largest in town. Had one of my favorites breakfast for lunch. Lox and cream cheese omelette. I have had quite a few things on the menu. I have not been disappointed with any choice. Nice bakery with breads cookies hot food to take home. Parking lot is small but getting there early... More

Great food and friendly servers. Always see a friend or neighbor. Then take desert home, or a bagel.

Established in 1980 D. Z. Akin's has been a San Diego institution since they first opened their doors back in 1980 and is still a family run business spanning 3 generations. From the Menu: "D.Z. stands for the two of us, Debi and Zvika Akin. Having lived in Los Angeles, we frequented many good delicatessens and knew that San Diego was in need of one. Considering how we both enjoyed cooking, and how even our first date revolved around a bowl of chopped liver, we decided to pack our bags, move to San Diego and take a stab at cooking for starved delicatessen lovers. With only a small budget, good old-fashioned recipes, the courage to experiment, hard work and long hours, 'D.Z. Akin's' came to be. We made a commitment to ourselves that we would never compromise on quality and we would fill our plates high with the finest delicatessen available... With the help of wonderful customers and perseverance, we became, beyond our greatest expectations, a thriving business."
