We took the Shinkansen out to Karuizawa for a short visit and to check out the town for future visits. As dusk draws near and it was chilly cold, we check our TA for the best restaurants in the area. Kawakamian surfaced out as #1. It was 6pm. We GPS the location and found it. When we walked in, the... More

A kind of "chic" soba restaurant in Kyu-Karuizawa. Well established and popular. A good place to eat when the tourists are not in town. However, I prefer their other restaurant in Harunire Terrace in Naka-Karuizawa. The setting and the menu are better.

A nice soba restaurant in the middle of Karuizawa. Today I try hot tempura soba in cold and windy day. Very nice place

Kawakamian is in the Hoshino resorts area of Karuizawa. The restaurant specializes in soba. The specialty meal was soba (hot or cold) served with Tempura, which was what I had (hot noodles is served in soup). Portion is decent and food is delicious. Pricing is not as cheap, perhaps due to location.

Both my husband and I love soba. So when google recommends this place, we go to try lunch there. The restaurant is well decorated. It looks very cozy. I order seasonal menu - oyster tempura with cold soba - and my husband goes for cold soba with duck dipping. We are both very happy with our food and plan to... More

We stop over at Harunie Terrace for a break and have a fabulous lunch at Kawakamien. We have the tempura soba and the two big prawns together with other tempura offerrings were really fresh and it is certainly value for money. I like the cold soba though my partner were struggling to finish the meal due to the large portion.... More

We had to queue for about 15 minutes to get in on a weekday at lunch time. I had the duck soba and hubby had the tempura soba. Both were good which for me means a good bite and not too soft. Mine was a little salty with 3 pieces of thinly sliced duck breast; hubby thinks they did a... More

We stopped here for a late lunch and ordered the tempura soba. The noodle portion isn't huge so one can manage the noodles and the tempura...which is crunchy and perfect..no soggy or greasy tempura from the kitchen here. The two big prawns are presented beautifully..along with several vegetables. You also get a parking validation so you can browse the shops... More
