Known for their excellent succulent soups they also serve amazing food and reasonable prices! My favorite is red snapper in salsa verde and my husband's is their tortilla soup...both excellent choices.

.... the parking lot was full so we decided on our last night to try to find authentic Mexican and THOUGHT this might be a great place. Almost everyone we passed had huge bowls of soup in front of them so I went for the soup. Their menu is friendly and funny. My husband; the fish taco's. I ordered a... More

We usually go there for the tortilla soup, especially on a cold day to warm the soul. It's a great chicken broth based soup with vegetables, chicken, and of course, fresh tortilla chips. But we also go there for the combo plates or the specialties, which cover two pages. I like the Carnitas, and the carne asada, but everything on... More

As far as Mexican restaurants go....and we have many in San Diego, this is our favorite. If you like Mexican style soups you can't go wrong. I especially like their chicken soup, home made and delicious! Great service, nice atmosphere, very friendly

Tried this place on a recommendation and am so glad I did. I had no idea that there were so many Mexican soups. They have 12 to choose from. The chicken soup was amazing. Even placed a second order to take home. Just average Margaritas.

North County San Diego is a hot spot for some of the best Mexican chicken soup around, and La Especial might have the best! Nothing fancy here, just good Mexican food and friendly service.

We chose this restaurant for lunch from the Tripadvisor listing and were very pleased. It is on the Coastal highway and fortunately had its own parking although limited. Kind of quaint and quirky inside. Food is excellent and a good value.

Tex mex food. Soups are good. Everything else is bland and somewhat overpriced. Service was slow and not friendly. Had to ask several times for water and napkins. Aside from soup we also had nachos and carnitas. Carnitas platter was large but bland. Nachos were forgettable. Better options in the area.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant by far!!! Tortilla Soup that cures whatever ails you, plus great fried fish, great chile rellenos, great chips and salsa, and ice cold beer. Lots of other great options, too, all at a reasonable price. Plus you can call ahead for takeout. Wait staff are always sweet, service is fast, and the owners conscientiously... More
