Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This bar and grill sits right next door to the Cedar Lodge restaurant, located on the Cedar Lodge property. Unlike the restaurant, the bar and grill offers smaller meals (BLT, chicken strip basket with fries, hamburger basket, chips and salsa, etc) with both dining in and to-to options. HINT: If yoh want a burger, get it here. It's $3 cheaper than at the restaurant next door). The vibe is casual, and some place you can easily pop into after a day at Yosemite or a dip in the pool. The service is prompt, the food fresh and served hot. Be prepared to pay up. For two meal baskets, it was $40 including drinks. But this is because there are no competitors, and the location as it relates to the hotel is a natural revenue stream. It definately beats eating another PB and J in your hotel room.

Good pub food. I stopped for a burger and a beer and was pleased with both. A nice food option, and VERY friendly staff. Nice to have something basic and good in the area.

The food here was good and the portions were enormous. The prices were pretty good too considering you are pretty limited in the choices in the area. I would recommend it to anyone staying at the Cedar Lodge.

If you are staying at Yosimite Cedar Lodge, you don't have a lot of choices for food. This is the cheaper of the 2 restaurants. Run of the mill burgers and chicken strips. Nothing special. Staff was difficult to communicate with since most of them didn't speak English. A manager did fix our bill when their language barrier caused order problems.

We stayed one night at Cedar Lodge. Canyon Bar and Grill is on the same property. We ordered our food at the counter and it was brought to our table. We didn’t have to wait too long for our order. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken was a little tough. The others in my family had chicken strips and a California melt, which they enjoyed. There aren’t many dining options in el Portal. This was convenient and we were glad that it wasn’t crowded and didn’t take long to get our order.

There is a good selection available of different items. We both had a burger with different toppings and I thought mine was very good; of course I had been without a burger for almost a week.

We grabbed a couple cheeseburgers here and they were pretty great, although we were half starved. I ordered a chicken sandwich one night and it was inedible. The bread was so tough not only could you not bite through it, I had trouble ripping it with my hands. Let alone the plastic knife. Stick to the burgers, they won't let you down.

My wife had the turkey sandwich and fries. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with Cole slaw. Both plates were great! Good food at a good price!

Quick place to grab a bite after a day in Yosemite. Sometimes the lines get long but just chill at the bar and they move quickly. After the first day of trying different choices we decided the burgers were the best choice .

Food over-priced, very small salad bar. there is not many options for dinner, just sandwiches mostly. I got the backpacker since it was one of only vegetarian options, wasn't bad but bread fried and came with french fries (which were pretty good)--but really is quite informal. You order at the counter and food brought to you. Not really a sit-down, spend a lot of time at restaurant.

Not many places in El Portal to eat. This pub was nice and family friendly. Basic fair - burgers, sandwiches, wings, etc. A bit pricey but standard for the remote area.

There is not many choices on the board that you have to order from but that's OK. Most of the tables were dirty, but we managed to find a clean one. Our order came quickly, in a basket including fish, fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was pretty bland, the fries were good but the fish was almost dripping with grease. It was done on the inside but very greasy. No one asked if our food was ok or if we needed anything. I would not go here again.

The Cedar Lodge properties restaurant was closed so this was the only lunch option as we did not have a car. There was nothing else in walking distance. Food was very average, but with other options I wouldn't return.

Sandwich fare. We had burger and a chicken fajita wrap. They were good and a bit pricey but expected. The French fries were fantastic.

Uncomfortable booths and tables (both standard and tall tables). Order at the counter from their limited menu, pay for your food (and soft drinks if requested), take a number to your table and they bring your food. Wait time for food was too long for a typical grill. Food was edible, not great, and overpriced (i.e., $14.00 for a hamburger and fries). A small salad bar exists, but did not look very fresh or appetizing. Staff was okay and most spoke fluent English (some did not).
You have to order alcoholic beverages at the bar, and pay at the bar (separate from your meal). On the plus side, you can an order a drink in a plastic cup and take it to the pool, which is just outside the door.
Note that we bought a bottle of wine at the Cedar Lodge Resort store. While eating, we asked the bar and grill if we could borrow a cork screw. The answer was no - they claimed they were not a part of the Cedar Lodge. Then the bartender and some (obviously local) patrons began to joke among themselves about our simple request - not a good method to ensure repeat business!
Another note: Based on experience with dinner, we decided to have breakfast in Yosemite National Park. We were glad we made that choice since the food in the park was better and less expensive.
