My wife and I had dinner there and although the food was good the restaurant was very quiet. When we asked we were told that it was a Monday night and the area is quiet at this time. Yet when we went to other restaurants in del Mar that week, they were very busy and full of atmosphere. We were... More

Food was excellent and service was very good. Party of 6, all had Italian dishes and all agreed the food was great. Atmosphere was OK as we were seated inside adjacent to the kitchen. We later learned there is outdoor seating on a lovely terrace with an ocean view. Wish we had known that. Wine selection was good and moderately... More

We were told be friends that this is a great place for Italian quality food and in-fact we found the food to be very authentic, freshly prepared and just very good quality! Service was really good were we felt that our waitress Bella was really attentive to details and took very good care of us! We had appetizers the salad... More

I went for dinner on Friday night, the place was very very busy but we got a wonderful service. My girlfriend and I sat outside, we ordered a bottle of il Fornaio Chianti and watched the sunset. The server was very knowledgeable, explained the specials and made some very good recommendation on what to get as main course. At that... More

It's a little hard to find. Pull in to parking garage off the main Street. On top level. Met with a group of business colleagues and had a leisurely dinner prepared by the executive chef for us. All great. Had the sea bass was good, I like it a little thicker but it was very moist. Great sunset view and... More

I have known El Fornaio since the late 1990s, when it still could have been described as a nice Italian restaurant. Over the years, the quality of the food has declined, while the noise level has gone up. The inside has the flair of a diner, the outside is better. The food overall has seen better days. The bruscetta had... More

A nice Italian restaurant that's part of a small chain. Excellent house made bread and good choices for lunch or dinner. I have their chicken salad for lunch regularly that's made from chicken that they rotisserie on the premises. Service is always excellent and it's a good place for a luncheon meeting or dinner.

The location on the Plaza is fantastic, and the food equally good. Fantastic service is the norm here, especially if they know you. I am local and frequent Il Fornaio, both for pizza at the bar during HH, and for traditional dinner.

Five of us looked forward to dinner at Il Fornaio, based on good experiences years ago. It was not to be. First was the parking garage, where every spot was full, on a Friday evening, until someone left. The restaurant was very noisy, and, unaccountably, noisier outside than in. Our inside table required two of us to sit on a... More

I brought my wife here for valenties day. I'd been here once before with my company and I thought that she'd enjoy it. I understand that Del Mar is a certain kind of area and thay this resturaunt is supposed to be a little more "upscale" but, I just feel like this place is way too pricey for what you're... More
