Good food and child-friendly!

My husband and I were really tired after pushing the stroller all the way to the end of the main trail, and our two year-old son was hungry but to be honest, we were still very full from breakfast, and had no intention of paying 17JOD for an all you can eat buffet. I asked the waiter (Omar) if he would consider giving us a discount for our toddler, and he said he could eat for free. That was so unexpected and sweet! We wanted to be supportive so my husband ended up eating there (and said it was excellent), and I had a drink. Thank you to Basin Restaurant for being so child-friendly!

Decent food, great service, extraordinary setting

Yes, the prices are a bit high, but it's what one would expect in this location. The buffet is typical of hotels in Jordan, with phenomenal salads and some meze, and a selection of hot entrees and small desserts. We were worried that we wouldn't get a table without a reservation because of all the tour groups, but the host greeted us warmly and seated us under the trees without delay. Our server, who introduced himself as Abood, was wonderfully friendly and attentive, especially given the crowds of tired and cranky tourists. The setting was beautiful and a nice rest after a morning of hiking.

After several hours of walking through Petra and taking in the unbelievable sights it was a welcoming relief to sit down in a cloth tabletop restaurant and relax in a very comfortable setting. We helped ourselves to the buffet style food that was very appealing and appetizing. Every dish was delicious - desserts included. Wait Staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. Highly recommend making this restaurant the preferred choice.

Delicious lunch experience

After visiting Petra there is no better way to end a great day than having a fabulous lunch at The Basin. For under $25 you are treated to a wide range of dishes both local and familiar - grilled veg, salads, chicken fish and beef. End with a variety of deserts. With unparalleled views you will have great lunch and experience. Odai and Alaa were especially helpful with charging our phones and general suggestions.

Delisious food and great service inside Petra archeological Park!

Operated by crown plaza hotel, the Basin restaurant is the best choice for you when you are spending a full day enjoying the new 7 wonder of the world. What makes it more special is the location, it is located at the end of the main trail and right before the Iconic monestry hike! This makes it the perfect choice for anyone who wants to enjoy Petra to the max and get some much needed energy before enjoying the rest of the day at the site. Food allergies? Don't worry, the restaurant provides an all you can eat daily buffet that includes 18 salads and cold mezza, 6 hot dishes with your choice of chicken, beef, fish and vegetables, 8 desserts and fresh fruits. They also accept credit cards and serve alcohol.

It's almost mandatory to have lunch at this self-service if inside Petra area; but still it's appreciable.

Anyone intending to dedicate a whole day (which is the bare minimum) to visit the archaeological area of Petra, will almost inevitably come across this restaurant, which is more or less in the center of the area, and is dependent on a large hotel chain. Yet I have had the feeling that it only moderately takes advantage of its quasi-monopoly. The restaurant is self-service arranged, and the dishes are appreciable. The price is flat rate (but I don't remember the figure, however not excessive), for a plate full of foods to taste. I favored stewed or grilled vegetables, with the inevitable hommos; and I resisted the fascination of even fine sweets. There is ample space outside, under large tents; but due to the heat of August we preferred to take advantage of the indoor air conditioning.

If you find yourself peckish in Petra…

After a long ride on a mule to reach this lovely, shaded site we were greeted by Omar, the manager, at Basin and he couldn’t have been more accommodating. After a cool drink and a short rest we were presented with an amazing feast for the eyes and belly as dish after dish of beautiful fresh traditional mazze, salads and accompaniments of every sort. Enough variety to please every taste. This was followed by steaming dishes of Jordanian chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, rice and potatoes. I tried them all and loved each dish. But wait, there’s a chiller full of yummy sweets to top it all off. Without hesitation I can give my highest recommendation to Basin for the food and hospitality. If you find yourself in Petra don’t miss this delight.

Overpriced but not bad

One of only a handful of options for food within Petra itself. The food (buffet service, all you can eat) is decent overall (the salads and mezze were tasty; the hot food was filling but nothing special). A welcome break after a morning hiking but at 17JD per head it felt quite overpriced for what it was. Guess that’s probably inevitable given the monopoly they have on lunch options within Petra.

Best option within the park

I believe this is the best restaurant within Petra park, among only a few options, even though it may be a bit pricier than the others. 20% discount if you are staying at the hotel that owns the restaurant (Petra Guest House Hotel, right at the park entrance). The service was excellent, provided by Diaya, Khalid and Alan. It was attentive and efficient. The whole place seemed clean and sanitary, with hand sanitizer everywhere to use. The buffet was excellent, the food seemed fresh and kept in a sanitary manner. It included cold appetizers, a variety of hot options including traditional Arabic chicken and rice, I believe called Kabsa, and 5+ desserts.

Great place with great staff

Basin is the first food destination that comes to mind when I head to Petra. The quality of food with a variety of dishes and the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant because of its location make it one of the best food vendors in Petra. In addition to all this, the reservation department there is magnificent, especially "Mais.“ The prompt responses with high proficiency, knowledge, and flexibility in booking and amendment matters make this place truly great.

Oasis in the Middle of Petra

After walking for more than 8 kilometers from Petra's entrance, the Basin restaurant is an oasis where you can take a rest and have lunch. The buffet selection is good and service is great. A stop here gives you energy to walk back the other 8 up hill kilometers back to the entrance.

Great Pit Stop in Petra

Had two meals out of my two trips inside Petra. I ordered some burgers on my first day and it was a buffet on my second day. Lovely option in buffet - fish fillets were prepared wonderfully and I finally have my green, leafy salad after one week + stay in Jordan. The guy (Amir) is super friendly and helpful too. I ordered some falafel to take out and he reminded me to have it within a couple of hours due to the nature of hummus. He was kind enough to keep it in to the fridge for me to prolong the freshness. On the second day, I asked if I could keep my sparkling water in the kitchen fridge and he happily took it in for me. Great service!

A nightmare place!

An unworthy place. We arrived with our guide for a pre-booked and PAID lunch included in a tour. When we arrived, absolute chaos reigned. Nobody, and I mean nobody, even paid us a glance. Even the local guide was not taken into consideration at all. We sat on some planks in the space in front without even knowing where to get a drink (imagine the thirst after the excursion). At a certain point I guessed where they sold the drinks. I get closer and join the queue but no one can be seen, even the people in front of me give up and leave. Finally a person arrives and I ask him if I can buy some drinks and he replies that he has to serve tables and that he doesn't have time!! Exasperated I start screaming and magically a waiter appears and sells me the drinks I needed at a high price!! I go back to the table where our guide had managed to find some cutlery, so I went to the buffet! It couldn't have been worse, little choice, sloppy dishes, even the fruit was inedible!! Through the guide I communicated all my disappointment to the manager, but this person, after a series of Arabic words, left in a bad way. At that point I promised him that I would write this review, the only way to make the level of this place known publicly: a nightmare place.

One of the best restaurants in Petra is the Basin Restaurant, and one of the best people I have dealt with in making reservations there is Miss Mais Al-Fdoul. She provides excellent treatment, quick responses to requests, and pleasant behavior. I highly recommend her as the best reservations employee for the Basin Restaurant.
