Great ancient pub but very small inside. Had an excellent Sunday lunch on a cold day, having walked there with the dog. Fortunately the dog waited until we were finished to levitate the table 6" stretching the lead in an attempt to say hello to a passing canine...but even this incident seemed to add to the atmosphere of the place.... Visited the Compasses Inn with friends for lunch on a cold December day. The staff friendly and helpful and a nice choice of warming food at a table by the open fire to keep December chills away. Situated in the Wiltshire countryside with plenty of walks round about, an ideal location. Obviously a popular inn and busy during our lunchtime... More

Visited on a December evening. Quirky old place, with an open fire. Excellent food and service. Friendly staff. Surprised it was so busy , being out of the way.

We visited The Compass Inn with friends on a chilly November evening, as soon as we stepped in from the cold we were made welcome and shown to our table near the roaring open fire. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. Overall a great experience, super pub with a fabulous atmosphere, will visit again.

Booked online wasn't too sure if it worked which it did. Very quirky little pub. Had a lovely meal. Service was great, staff really friendly, would like to come back and try their roast dinners. Great place to come in the summer for drinks and food outside.

We tried this lovely pub for the first time this month...it"s like going back around 400years as one enters, except the food is quite delicious and bang up to date. Such a varied menu offering something at all price points. My wife had venison and I tried the breast of partridge cooked in an Indian style - both were superb.... More

House searching in the area and saw this on TripAdvisor, so popped along for lunch. A tiny pub tucked away up a narrow road, it's well worth the trip. Roaring log fire and quite busy with locals, we had a light lunch with local beers. It was very dark in there and incredibly atmospheric with none of the faux character... More

Waited quite a while for the meal to arrive as locals dominated the attention !! Food very good, but my steak bit chewy and unusually the Pepper sauce was poured all over it!! Ambience very nice.

We booked a table for four for lunch at this restaurant having read good reports about it on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The table was ready for us as booked and we received a very warm welcome. The building is old and quaint with lots of little nooks and crannys. It is clearly popular as it started to... More
