This was recommended because my father-in-law wanted a good pub lunch. We were not disappointed. The food was lovely and the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The menu was interesting with a good selection. Both my daughters, aged 10 & 12, were able to find something they liked. My younger daughter is a fussy eater. We all had a... More

Always consistently good food here, although the menu could be changed more often. Cosy in the bar by the fireplace in the winter. Well worth the twisty turning roads to get here!

Returning from a walk at 15:30 we were unfortunately too late for lunch but were able to order bar snacks and coffees. Food was of very good quality and we were able to enjoy it in the lovely surroundings of this beautifully refurbished pub. Staff were very friendly and are able to provide copies of 5 local walks.

Ate here after a country walk but we were glad we had changed our muddy boots in the car as it has a very modernised restaurant/lounge type atmosphere albeit with 'wooden' flooring. All traces of a country pub have long since vanished apart maybe from the open fire. We enjoyed our sausage bap though. The rest of the food on... More

We stayed one night, didn't know the area at all and were very pleased with our stay. Room was comfortable, bed was fab. Bathroom good. The staff accommodate our wish to eat early and we enjoyed what we had. Breakfast was fast, tasty and efficient. Delicious coffee!

As a local to us and we sometimes have bar snacks, only fair periodically to dine at this wonderful establishment. All the staff are happy, polite and professional and the ambience last night was like excellent, with a mixture of staying visitors and locals alike. The meals were perfect, both sirloin and rib-eye were the finest cuts and cooked to... More

Amazing fresh, locally sourced food. A wonderful choice of good food, with generous portions. Wine list varied and reasonably priced. Breakfast was equally as good.

Really enjoyed our evening meal in the restaurant. It's a long time since I have been to the Crown & Garter and it is transformed into a really nice place to eat. Nice to see bream on the menu, it was very tasty, and makes a change from the fish often seen in restaurants. I don't often have deserts, but... More

Went for a Saturday lunch with friends, the decor is simple but well finished giving a quality look, the staff are attentive without being overly intrusive. The menu was short but provided a variety of options with interesting and well judged flavour combinations. We had all a starter and a main, the starters were all really good and we all... More

Description
The Crown & Garter's newly refurbished restaurant is the place to enjoy good British cooking. The largest part of the refurbishment costs was the amount spent on the kitchen, so we hope that the investment will be reflected in the food that comes to your table through it's doors. But of course, the kitchen isn't only about new equipment and having lots of space, primarily it is about people who work in the kitchen and we have spent a great deal of time and effort finding a superb staff to cook for you.

The team is led by Matthew Ambrose our Executive Chef. A local man from Marlborough, who trained at Claridges, where he came third in the British Culinary Federation Young Chef of the Year in 2011. In 2013 he achieved the highest marks for kitchen and the title of Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Young Chef of the Year 2013. He is a very talented young chef whose meals will definitely excite your palate.
