Bit grubby but I hear it's been taken over so looking forward to seeing what the new owners do-a spruce up is needed, surroundings are nice.

Stunning irish castle. Lovely entrance, lobby is old and castle style with a big open fire which is on most days of the year. Adds to the setting of the castle. Rooms are comfy and clean but a little dated. Food is nice

The restaurant is not massive and is light and airy. The Sunday lunch menu had plenty of choice for starters, main and desserts. We were seated quickly and offered water. Food arrived quite promptly and was hot and looked tasty and well presented. The roast lamb was succulent with no fat.

Very nice stop on our roundtrip in a historical castle. We booked the "romatic breakout" including a dinner, breakfast in the room and late checkout. Highly recommendable!

Don't bother making reservations, and don't expect them to make good on any you've already made. This restaurant (and the castle housing it) closed without warning and will remain so until March 2016.

Lovely place to stay for the authentic "castle" experience. Probably best enjoyed in summer time. Staff are very pleasant and helpful and the food is very good.

Markree Castle was our first night stop in Ireland. Lovely to wake up in a peaceful setting with horses across the road in a field. Lovely, relaxing time. A lovely breakfast room, tasty dinner in the onsite pub. A little run down, the only castle we could afford, but a great experience. I would return.

I had gone in expecting to order the vegetarian meal but was swayed by the fresh Skeaghanore duck breast that was absolute perfection and was served with a selection of individual delights including a sunflower seed granola that complimented the meal well. Because the castle does attract tourists, it is hit or miss on whether it will be a quiet... More
