I can definitely see how some of the one star reviews here can be true. The owner is very eccentric, frequently boasts about her freshly made bread and smoothies, and can hang around at your table for periods far longer than comfortable. I ordered one of the sandwiches, which actually did turn out to be very good - the bread... More

My friend and I have really missed some good bread, and this is no doubt the best bread we've had in South America since we came (2months). It comes with a price (7$), but if you enjoy proper bread it is totally worth it. The owner is nice but a bit stressed. I'm going back!

Awesome place tucked into the beautiful town of Baños Ecuador. This place had the best REAL coffee I ever found in Ecuador (due to many places uses instant stir in coffee). Prices are very reasonable for food (I recommend the brownies and egg combo breakfast) and hand ground coffee's. They also have vino caliente which is hot wine with spices.... More

The owner gave us a card in the street, boasting great coffee so we went for coffee later in the day. When I asked for the wifi password, the ecuadorian employee told me I had to spend $10. At first I thought he was joking with me as this is unheard of! He explained that people stay 3-4 hours to... More

Warm freshly home made bread rolls - delicious freshly squeezed orange juice and a great fruit salad. After three months of very basic breakfasts or terrible bread this place was a welcome surprise. This may not be an everyday breakfast place it's certainly a dollar or two more than I am used to paying for breakfast (I'm backpacking) but what... More

While out walking around during our trip to Banos, we met the owner handing out business cards near the square and both agreed that probably meant the business was in trouble since we didn't see other restaurants or cafes doing this type of advertising. The next day, both of the breakfast options we planned to visit during our stay were... More

This place looks like a nice laid back cafe decorated and furnished to appeal to the new age traveller. However, the food is rather mediocre, service quite slow, and the prices surprisingly high for Ecuador, e.g. $6 for a cheese sandwich. The Dutch woman, presumably the owner, has a strange rather aggressive personality and doesn't seem to much like Ecuador,... More

I have been in Banos for several days and in into trying new places. I stopped in here for lunch today. I should have known to leave when two guys walked by and one told the other, "That is the worst restaurant in Banos". Well I stayed, the owner proceeded to tell me about her use of all organic vegetables... More

Maria was a marvelous host, jer sandwiches are to die for and the warm spiced wine is out of this world, especially on a cool and damp day. My fiancee and I visited the Cafe Ali Cumba on several occasions during our visit and always left completely satisfied and smiling. The breakfast is great, Don't forget the fresh homemade bread... The sandwich I had was great. The tea was in a bag, not like the other coffee shops in the area. So just ok. Danish owner can be nice, but likes to ramble about lots of uninformed issues. However, this place was extremely expensive so I probably won't eat there again soon.
