Borges and Alvarez LibroBar is centrally located, right above a little market on the main drag of the town. Since it's on the second floor and has lots of windows, it's a perfect perch to have a drink, grab a bite to eat, and people watch.

We waited 15mins until we would get menues, then again a long time until we could order. In the end we only got 1 of the waters we ordered, and only 2 of the 3 dishes we ordered. I think the waitress brought my husband's burger to a different table, which they denied to have ordered, but she took it... More

I spent some time solo in El Calafate and Borges y Alvarez was my go-to hang out. While the prices are quite steep, this place is perfect for grabbing one of their many artisanal beers and sitting with a book for hours. There is tons of indoor and outdoor seating and no one will bother you. They also have a... More

We tried to order drinks and a snack this afternoon: 4 sodas, 2 hamburgers, a salad, 2 ham empanadas and a chicken sandwich. Our waiter left for quite some time and came back and said that there were no hamburgers or chicken sandwiches. We tried to order a couple of other things but they were not available either. (We were... More

Probably a nice place to take a drink but avoid this place for eating something. We took some sandwiches and it was an awful experience (poor quality and very expensive). If they can't prepare some toasts, the chef won't be able to cook anything else. Maybe a bad day?

I might not have minded so much paying 125 pesos for a 'pinta' (actually only a third) of fairly indifferent 'English style' beer if the wifi had worked but it didn't. This bar is recommended by Lonely Planet and pleasantly situated upstairs just off the Main Street, and also has loads of outside tables for when the weather is good,... More

Ok, so it was early evening and they may have had part time staff in but there were few people there and we still had to hunt down service. We ordered 'pintas' of two different 'artisinal' beers at 125 pesos each, expecting already expensive pints. What we got was at best 350ml glasses. Worse still, each beer was, in English... More

I loved the book themed bar, atmosphere was great, loved the decorations and all of the books. The bill was really expensive for what we ordered, but we were smack in the middle of the tourist zone. Wifi didn't really work so well, there was a small area in the back of the restaurant where you could stand and it... More

the place has a lovely ambiance and the staff are very friendly, not many books though! We ordered two drinks each (one of which was a alcoholic coffee that was frankly awful) and it cost us almost 700 pesos! we've had amazing 3 course meals for 2 for less than that! for this reason I can't give more than 2... Seriously overpriced and not very nice food. Beer is extortionately priced. Only good feature is sunny terrace but that's not enough to justify the cost.
