At first glance this looks like a pretty small plaza. I found that it winds around some and provided a nice place to take a run (which was my objective). Depending which paths you follow it is probably around 1KM around. Went in the early evening. Lot's of families, couples picnicking on the grass, a small children's playground and a... More

Many of the reviews and photos on TA that are supposedly for this restaurant are really for Plaza Dorrego that is a few blocks away. San Telmo Plaza has a cozy atmosphere. The service was good although the waiter was all business even though there were only a few patrons. The food was outstandingly good. I had the bife de... More

Go to the market on a Sunday - totally worth it but needs patience with so many crowds. Eat somewhere off the plaza!

San Telmo is a charmning 'barrio' / area, and even if its very touristy, it still has his charm. On the weekends there is a little market on the plaza, and there is more market along the street to the town hall. They sell art of all styles, you can see argentinians dancing tango. Also at night you can go... More

The Tango and street faire that was here was a big plus. It is one of those random things that happen when on vacation that makes things special!

Not far from the heart of San Telmo (Dorrego Square) this small and cozy restaurant serves extraordinary food. Try the chicken supremes and you'll be soon going back to the restaurant. Excellent service!

San Telmo is such a nice neighborhood and the plaza is really the heart of it. At sunday evenings there is tango dance on the plaza and we would go there every sunday evening and just watch it for hours.

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
