This place is not a genuine sushi restaurant. My husband and I ordered the lunch menu with salmon as our fish of choice. When the sushi arrived, it was mainly cream cheese fillings and very small pieces of salmon on some of the pieces. An embarrassment to any real Japanese kitchen. We didn't even eat some of the pieces as... More

We arrived late to Shokudo on a Sunday, when they were busy. We were warned that here was a 30 minute delay on sushi. Accepting this, we ordered and waited. They brought the drinks along quickly. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Eventually, after 30 minutes without a sign of anything to eat, we complained. They brought the gyoza... More

The salmon nigiri and sashimi was fine. The canned-tuna roll, the roll-with-guacamole, the roll with cream cheese, and others of that ilk--none of which we had intended to order--was stomach-churningly bad.

The restaurant is in a cozy setting on the first floor in San Telmo. It's just a door on the street so it's easy to miss. Inside we ordered some gyoza, tempura, maki rolls and sashimi. Traditional sushi fare. Portion sizes were decent, and reasonably priced as well. Unfortunately, the selection of sushi is fairly limited. The *only* fresh fish... More

After eating all this excellent Argentinian beef, we decided to try Japanese food even though we are half a world away from Japan. We order yakisoba and a California roll as a light dinner. The Yakisoba was excellent...tender, cooked, and seasoned to perfection. We had no complaints about the California roll either. Service was excellent and we had an enjoyable... More

I went with my girlfriend and we shared the Gyosa & Tempura Mixed. Both were only OK. The Gyosa was alright but the Tempura doughy and not light. It was a nice change from steak but when one eats Japanese food regularly, it was a disappointment.

I visit Shokudo 3 or 4 times a month... and it has never been a disappointment. The food is super fresh and excellent, the restaurant is confortable and decorated in a simple but modern style. I have noticed a great improvement in the service with some waiters/waitresses who speak Japanese, English, and Spanish... In brief, a great unpretentious Japanese restaurant... More

I had a sushi plate and a soup. Both dishes were fresh. The prices are slightly above the average prices in Buenos Aires, but it completely paid off.

Shokudo is a quiet restaurant in the middle of San Telmo. The atmosphere is peaceful and it feels japanese. Far from hype japanese restaurants, which modern combinations, Shakudo has an excellent classic menu.During the day has a special menu at a good price. There are combinados of sushi all day long but you also have different dishes. I recommend the... More

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
